That's stupid. Any non-trivial application is going to require some
configuration just to allow the end user to set up the options they want.
You are either exposing this to the end user or your program is just
crippled.
Although Unix design principles call for useful defaults.

So that's what? X minutes for the duration of usage?
That's hardly a great burden to productivity.
Your argument only makes sense to a mathematically illiterate audience.

Hey, I've worked in corporate USA for some duration now. Now I'm one those 50+ years of age or older crowd. Corporate and Governmental USA loves us! Hell, they're evening opening doors for us as they forcefully shove us out of them. But I digress... It's far more productive, as we We WE all monetizing focused minds know this in every inch of our thoughts, waiting around three plus hours or a week before the young male asian tech support gurus, with their fancy admin account passwords written inside their sweaty palms, to come back and reinstall Windows (#AnyNumber@all). Been there, done that, not going back. Please don't make me go back into Cubicle Hell With A Windoze Based PC. The Horror! Help me... Thank goodness there's cygwin. Yeah, the 98.5% of the desktop/laptop market is just so behind the times. Only you linux loonies are picking the right tools for the jobs at hand. RPN is fine I suppose, I've got friends that swore by it. I never took to it even when I was programming in Forth back in the day. Just personal preference. As to the CLI, various text editors (many also available for windows and OSX), as are markup languages, if you need them they are important. Outside of some relatively small niches, none of them are actually needed or used. And I note you and chrisv are still just talking to each other and almost all posts bitching about the comments of 'trolls' you claim you don't read. What a bunch of cowards you all are. For all of the crap Peter catches, he isn't a bit afraid to comment directly. I respect him for that. For the rest of you that are afraid to engage, well go back to your circle jerk. -- Lloyd

There are many parallels between RPN calculators and desktop Linux. "The people have rejected RPN. The market share of RPN proves that it is inferior. It must suck to be an RPN user." Etc, etc. The idiocy. Some trolls are so vile, so dishonest, that they would ridicule anyone who claimed to be pro-choice but who uses an RPN calculator. There is a far-greater selection of algebraic calculators, you see. -- 'Ah, Linux, the "advantage" of less choice.' - "Snit", because the Windows ecosystem has drivers for a broader range of PC motherboards.

Speaking of Macs, I have to wonder why nobody has ever talked about the quality of the motherboards Apple puts in its machines. As a PC user knows, choosing an ASUS motherboard will likely improve your computer's performance. It is certainly better than a Gigabyte, an MSI or an AsRock. A great processor on poor hardware will simply give you poor performance. With that in mind, how does an Apple motherboard compare? I would imagine that they use quality parts but does it perform the way an ASUS would or is it closer to something like a DFI? -- Slimer

Mac users rarely run around claiming their choice offers more choices than the others. Sure, in general it offers more choice than Linux (though not in this area) but Windows is the "winner" when it comes to choices in general... OS X the "winner" with choices for streamlining workflows (and even then there are exceptions). Linux offers the least choice. A million distros with a thousand DE's all tied to a very limited ecosystem. -- * OS X / Linux: What is a file? <http://youtu.be/_dMbXGLW9PI> * Mint MATE Trash, Panel, Menu: <http://youtu.be/C0y74FIf7uE> * Mint KDE working with folders: <http://youtu.be/7C9nvniOoE0> * Mint KDE creating files: <http://youtu.be/N7-fZJaJUv8> * Mint KDE help: <http://youtu.be/3ikizUd3sa8> * Mint KDE general navigation: <http://youtu.be/t9y14yZtQuI> * Mint KDE bugs or Easter eggs? <http://youtu.be/CU-whJQvtfA> * Easy on OS X / Hard on Linux: <http://youtu.be/D3BPWANQoIk> * OS / Word Processor Comparison: <http://youtu.be/w6Qcl-w7s5c>
