Depends on what you mean "greatest". And does not matter -- the one with the greatest impact from man is CO2 (which is not to say other gasses do not have larger impacts, they such as methane and many others). If you mean the most "powerful" one, as in least amount causes the greatest capture of heat, that is sulfuryl fluoride (which I had to look up). > What are the most accurate way to measure temperature globally ? You are likely thinking of satellite measures, generally seen as the most accurate, but for the overall picture that does not matter -- we can and should and DO use multiple forms of measure... that is key to science. -- Personal attacks from those who troll show their own insecurity. If you > mean the most "powerful" one, as in least amount causes the greatest > capture of heat, that is sulfuryl fluoride (which I had to look up). yea, "greatest" is interpretative in this use, Water Vapor is the largest dominant Greenhouse gas which absorbes the most spectrial bands, mainly in IR. Beats CO2 by miles, but man cannot control water vapor, as we got 70% surface of earth covered in water. The other contender for 10th worst greenhouse gas is perfluorotributylamine or PFTBA. This chemical has been used by the electronics industry for over half a century, but it's gaining attention as a potential global warming gas because it traps heat more 7,000 times more efficiently than carbon dioxide and persists in the atmosphere for over 500 years. While the gas is present at very low amounts in the atmosphere (around 0.2 parts per trillion), the concentration is growing. PFTBA is a molecule to watch. > >> What are the most accurate way to measure temperature globally ? > > You are likely thinking of satellite measures, generally seen as the > most accurate, but for the overall picture that does not matter -- we > can and should and DO use multiple forms of measure... that is key to > science. > I thought satellite would be the most accurate, however it is considered less reliable due to unknown amount of water vapor in the air, clouds, it can measure upper atmosphere fine below are error sources with sattilites [so this implies reliance on earth thermometers, with its problems] "According to Dr. Michael Mann (Penn State), the satellite temperature record has actually been subject to more adjustments than the surface record. Mann also states that the global satellite temperature record has been shown to have a bias of showing too little warming. Studies have shown that satellite data was not properly interpreted. Atmospheric friction slows satellites down, causing them to lose altitude (1 km loss of height per year). In order to derive atmospheric temperature, scientists need to know the altitude of the satellite. Without the correct altitude, the temperature results can become distorted. Satellite drift can also cause problems. Temperatures that were earlier analyzed at 2pm where a few years later being analyzed at 6pm, which made it look like there was cooling, when in fact there was no cooling. UAH corrections were made, but still underestimated the warming, according to Dr. Kevin Trenberth (NCAR) According to Dr. Andrew Dessler of Texas A&M, satellites actually *measure radiance and not temperature*. In order to determine temperature from the radiance the UAH/RSS team's use a "retrieval algorithm", which is essentially a model, according to Dessler. Unfortunately, that *model has repeatedly been shown to be in error*. One reason why satellite measured anomalies are significantly lower than the surface measured temperatures is the fact that the satellite temperatures are measured against the 1981-2010 mean, whereas the NASA surface database is measured against the lower 1951-1980 mean and the NOAA database is measured against the 20th century average. You demonstrate that there are all sorts of people not working for the CDC who are ready, willing and able to do all sorts of research, and all sorts of people who are willing, willing and able to fund that research without tax dollars. Write up a research proposal, and if the idea is any good you'll get it done. The CDC's job is whatever Congress said it is, and by putting restrictions on research dollars Congress has declared that some of what you want the CDC to do is not its job.

You want to prevent whatever gun research you can. We have already covered this.
