That's just a 2-button + wheel mouse with an array of thumb buttons.
Not at all what I wanted. Variations of that format are all over
the place. What I wanted (and get with the cadmouse) is a traditional
3-button mouse which also has a wheel.

I cannot imagine why I would want as many buttons as Jeff shows... for me
having next and previous buttons which I can configure per program, as well
as configuring the middle button to do as I want is very important. I also
have some other buttons but they are not as big of a deal for me... still
nice to have.

And all of this is pretty easy to set up (though I do mention some areas
where it could be better): <https://youtu.be/V791-XhhOxY>.

As far as I know there is nothing like that on Linux... but would love to be
proved wrong.

How about configuring them per-application? I know there are drivers that do
that, but curious if you use it that way.

There's 3 BIG buttons: Pointer, Middle and Ring Fingers.
My thumb and pinky are on the mouse pad.
It super easy to set them to do whatever, and/or nothing.

Look at my photo ( Jeff-Relf.Me/g600.PNG ) and/or see:

Ah, ok. It was not obvious from your photo. Still don't care for having
keyboard on the side of my mouse, but that does satisfy my requirements
of 3 full-size buttons plus the wheel. I don't know why Logitech doesn't
just go ahead and put out a reasonably priced ($10) 3-button + wheel mouse.
The would sell a boatload of them to Linux users.

$39 ( for the g600 ) is too much ?

I programmed ( and use ) every single one of the 39 buttons,
all day, everyday... not one of them doesn't get used a lot.

Most of the time, I don't use the keyboard at all.
Often, I use a virtual keyboard instead.

Maybe not too much for that particular mouse, but a much
simpler mouse with just 3-buttons and a wheel should not
go for more that $10-12 at most. But with nobody making
them, they could probably command double that price.

I have _many apps that use the 39 buttons, not just "Jeff-Relf.Me/X.HTM".

Still seems like a large percentage of the buttons you have programmed are
done for Usenet.

A decent mouse is very important which is why I currently swear by the
Corsair M65 gaming mouse. It costs about $40-$50, provides a very decent
build in addition to a back and front button for navigation, the scroll
wheel and buttons which can modify the mouse's sensitivity on the fly if
the user is playing a first-person shooter. It is also guaranteed to
resist several million mouse clicks which is awesome for the price that
you pay.

Sure you do Rolf. You are still an idiot and prove it here everyday.

Sure, a bazilion side buttons and they don't even dare defy Bill with a
third button! What idiots. What an idiot for YOU thinking that a switch
on the wheel is a third mouse button. You need to get out of your
"command center" basement more.

How many would they really sell? Three buttons plus the scroll wheel instead
of just three buttons with the wheel... for most users there is no appeal or
benefit. You like it, which is fine, but does not mean many others would.

I am someone in the same boat: I love the feel and shape of the MX518.
Logitech replaced that with the G400 which had about the same shape. OK.
They replaced THAT with the G400s, which was the same shape as the G400 just
a bit more sensitive.

Then what? The G402? Have not used one but they moved FIVE buttons to the
thumb area. Why? And it has lights that I see no value to other than to
distract (though other of their mice are far worse).

Maybe I will move to one some day... when my MX518 dies. Who knows... maybe
I will even prefer it. Better than the ones with the tons of lights on the
side.

I'd agree. I would imagine most UNIX users would want that as standard
equipment. It just doesn't quite feel like UNIX without it.

They sell for a broader audience... even the niche of gaming is a LOT bigger
than those who would want such a mouse.

Though the one with the keyboard on the side is just odd to me. Cannot
imagine there is much demand for that, either.

Yes...I considered one as my old mouse driver stopped supporting my MX518...
but found a different driver.
