Vice and corruption are endemic to _ every system, including Christianity and humanism. No matter what tribe you might belong to, Christianity or humanism, "sustained consumption" is the only goal, truth be damned. "God" (nature) has programmed "you" (us) to eat and procreate even when it's counter beneficial to both yourself and society. Not needing a family is the primary benefit of wealthier societies.
