Right so let's get rid of straws and thin lids in favor of heavy plastic sippy cup lids that increase the amount of single-use plastic used per drink. Or we can package our paper straws in plastic bags that contain more single use plastic than the plastic straw they are replacing. Or we can carry around multiuse straws and subject ourselves to potential health hazards by using and reusing the same straw while being subject to contamination between uses. Oh and the cost of recycling the plastic is really quite minimal. particularly if you can make all your single use plastic using the same plastic and get customers to put it in the dedicated recycling bin. A quick wash, shred, and then it can be put directly into the input of the production line to make more straws, lids, etc. Cost, a couple of dollars per ton. Less than the cost of new plastic.

Well, then your multiuse straw cost a whole lot more, both to produce, recycle and all that energy, fresh water and soap needed to keep your multiuse straw sanitary. Far cheaper to simply use single use plastics all made of the same plastic, have a dedicated recycle bin for such plastic. Then a quick wash, shred, and they are ready to be poured into the feed hoppers for the plastic processing machines. Quick, easy, sanitary and above all super cheap with less impact on the environment.
