Virtually nothing reasonable kills them effectively. Moist poisons only kill on contact which makes them ineffective. Might as well just spray with 91% isopropyl alcohol. Works as poorly as most things. Sprays you buy in stores (Lowes, home depot etc.) don't work because bugs have developed immunity to it. There are better things you can buy from pest control places but is still rather ineffective. The younger they are, the harder they are to kill. Nothing but DDT kills the eggs. Heat will work in a car infestation if you turn the heater on on a hot summer day. Try it in a house and you only melt down all your candles while the bugs are back in the walls laughing at you. Diatomaceous earth will kill them IF they walk through it. Bad news they are like ants and leave a trail so once they find a safe pathway, they never stop coming. Sticky sheets will trap them, but since you are the bait, you'll have to stick them all over you. There are traps to see if you have bugs. They attract them with pheromones and CO2 and they can't get out of the slippery plastic. Bed bugs do not have sticky feet like flies. Usual advise is get pest control. This will cost thousands and if internet reports are any indication, they will be equally ineffective. The best is a treatment of powdered silica gel. It's a little more effective that diatomaceous earth, but not much. Note that if bites don't bother you at first, after a while you develop an allergy to them and then they itch just like poison ivy. These bugs are so nasty and resistant they have literally driven people insane or out of their own houses for years. This is the science and shows the kind of disasters listening to Libs (Like author of Silent Spring) for your science will cause. Libs are idiots and have flunked every science course they ever took. They think fantasy is science. Enjoy your future life, growing tulips, tending windmills and fighting bed bugs. Sleep tite and don't let the bed bugs bite! PS. Note that because bed bug bites don't spread disease, public health departments refuse to deal with them saying that they aren't a public health issue. Pest control just cleared a building downtown using cyanide. Taped up all doors and windows cleared out people and went at it. This was standard treatment in WWII.

Nice thing about DE is you can put it everywhere, including dusting your mattress liberally with it. It is HARMLESS to mammals (again, unless inhaled). Idiots who think sprinkling it around the legs of their beds deserve to get bit. > The best is a treatment of powdered silica gel. It's a little more > effective that diatomaceous earth, but not much. Silica gel is a dessicant and becomes useless after absorbing humidity from the air (cue tornado boy). DE is sharp glassy knives that get into their joints and "bleeds" them out. It works when wet and never gets dull. I've never had an ant, flea or bedbug problem because every time I move to a new place the first thing I do is spread a 20 lb bag* throughout the house and yard, BEFORE I move any of my stuff in. It's cheap and permanently effective- I have four dogs, two indoor-outdoor cats, and no bugs. * This is a bigger place with a big yard- wife and I splurged on a 50 lb bag from the local feedstore to do the whole yard. $35.00 plus tax. Oh, and about hanging bedsheets to dry in the sun- the heat isn't what does the job, it's the UV. Long enough to dry the sheets is long enough to kill bedbug eggs. Mark L. Fergerson
