And you know what’s really heavy? Water. to Mars it is $180,000 per pound When astronauts travel into space, NASA scientists determine how much food will be needed for each mission. For example, an astronaut on the ISS uses about 1.83 pounds (0.83 kilograms) of food per meal each day. About 0.27 pounds (0.12 kilograms) of this weight is packaging material. Longer-duration missions will require much more food. Space Shuttle food tray Image above: A space shuttle food tray. Credit: NASA A trip to Mars and back, for instance, may take more than three years and require the provision of thousands of kilograms of food. A crew of four on a three-year martian mission eating only three meals each day would need to carry more than 24,000 pounds (10,886 kilograms) of food. cost for food launch to Mars is $4,320,000,000 NO toilet paper. What Rocket can carry 24,000 pounds to mars ??? Today, the types of foods available include rehydratable, temperature-stabilized, irradiated and natural-form foods. Most foods are ready to eat simply by adding water or by heating. All food is precooked and processed so it requires no refrigeration. The only exceptions are fresh fruits and vegetables. No refrigeration is available on the space shuttle so fresh foods must be eaten within the first few days of flight or they will spoil. Food for the ISS is similar to that on the space shuttle except that fewer foods require rehydration because of the limited amount of water available on the station.

Never going to be any to-'n-fro or colonization of Mars in our, or even our grandchildren's lifetime. Rocket based propolsion is way too impractical. You need something as big as the statue of liberty just to get a few pounds to and back from the Moon. If something much better is discovered or developed, then maybe. Get real guys !

I'd like to hear about candidates to send to Mars. We could start with negroes, homosexuals, "transgenders" and liberal democrats. Assign Barack Obama as the pilot, first negro to Mars.

Assign Barack Obama as the pilot, first > negro to Mars. > the problem there is that the people would have to put labels on themselves to fit in those catagory. A dictator could label them, but if done by themselves it avoids the "racist" "sexist", "bigotry" attacks. you could screen via their names, for race labels, as the WSJ artical says Facebook does. OR use their drivers license, most have race on it, New York requires sexual orentation on their DL, beginning in 2017 for the Obama imposed transgendered bathroom checks, their are 7.5 catagories approved by EPA. if you offered "free drugs on Mars, free trip too" you will pick up a lot of voulenteers. Colorado is using "Mexican Medicine" carrot to attract more of the stoner crowd to their state. this is THE CHANCE for Liberal Democrats to establish their own non-contamminated Utopia on Mars, they all need to go there and construct their future world by themselves, Hillary, Palosie, Kerry, Obumma, all of them, their wives and husbands, and childrens, all aboard the Mars express and save that planet, no global warming there!

The problem is... NASA doesn't know how to make flying space vehicles to Mars. You're suppose to fly horizontal, not vertical. and land horizontal, not vertical. As you see in this video.. you land horizontal and take off horzontal. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=igMNkaxdCc4 you might have to swing back and forth like an ant to get where you're going... Why don't I just blow up the planet and start from the beggining? You earthlings are hopeless...
