For ignorant immigrants with no understanding of US history, the 4th of July
commerorates the adoption of the Declaration of Independence on July 4, 1776
by the Continental Congress.

The British weren't "kicked out" until the Treaty of Paris in 1783, though
they did little to nothing but wait for a boat home after the defeat at
Yorktown in 1781.

The British then came back for another try at in 1812.

It's the same thing. Similarly Moslems chose a
symbolic event for the beginning of Islamic calendar.
At the time of that event it was not clear at all
Islam would win. Mohammad was still a nobody. But for
USA, in principle, the kick began with that
declaration. You're just baiting me again to check my
knowledge of U.S. history. My knowledge of U.S.
history is based on French sources, which means I know
stuff about you that you have been denied the
knowledge.

xxein: Yeah. Let's all revolt. Let each person have his own ideas and tolerate no others. It is time to create the Un-united People of the World with each person having ~5.22 acres sovereign land. No sense of a shared sentiment allowed. What could go wrong with that?

I was in, and loaded nukes on airplanes, sure I got lots of radiation
then, it only affected my spelting, also the aircraft carrier insulation
was asbestos and it would fall out as a fine dust from the overhead, but
they say less than 30% develop that miezelathomia, they decomminished
the boat when aspostes was declared bad.

Doesn't matter what happens in military service. All
the way to one's life itself. That's why it cannot be
beaten by someone who hasn't had that service. For
being in USA I lost a country and my family
environment I could have in there. It's a heavy price
but as I said cannot beat service cause I didn't risk
my life to be here.

Honor is not just via military service. An American
can feel and have honor for having been part of a
country that has made life much easier for everyone in
the world. Innovations and progress means a lot to
everyone. This thread was only to point out that 4th
of July honor in particular belongs to a people that
are not around anymore. In body and in much of the
spirit as well. You're giving up on those principles
and the government is becoming yet another "British
colony" imposed on you. The Americans of late 1700s
wouldn't allow that.

agree on all. I have a very old letter from 1820 where a guy talks
about his life in the Revolutionary war for the US, amazing how much he
got around, virgina to Rohad Island to philidelphia, to Islands off
cuba, and no electricity back then, no trains, no bridges, only
horses... Much much different than now, yellow fever, etc... different.

Reduce the population far enough and those principles
again become available to be had :)

Per your explanation downthread, no, I didn't, but also as you say I feel I share in it because I did serve. (They didn't have an Air Force back then, but if they could have they would have.) If you feel otherwise, please explain why risking one's life to perpetuate what others else risked their lives to create is less honorable.

Anyway, by analogy I shouldn't feel responsible for the racism of others with whom I share skin color but not racist attitudes or actions?

Thanks, I've always felt that way.

No it's not less honorable. If you have served that's
it. Nothing will beat that. Regardless of what you did
in the service. Cause in principle you were ready to
(and could) die for it. One cannot offer more.

I didn't quite get your point.
