As I recall, I only had one course (Physics 433 - Experimental Research Project 1.0 credits) where I did anything completely alone. They did have a list of suggestions if we couldn't think of something on our own. I picked design & fabrication of an experimental apparatus that they could use to demonstrate electrons travelling in circular paths in a magnetic field. I did the (fairly elementary) calculations for the dimensions, made tech drawings of the device, and it was built by someone in the University machine shop. But the vacuum pump could never get the pressure down enough in the device to actually use it as intended. I don't recall oraly 'defending' my thesis. It was essentially a fluffed-up lab report explaining that probably an insect crawled inside when nobody was looking. I have absolutely no idea how they arrived at the 74% I got in that course.

Your point being?

Trying to get you to put your money where your big mouth is? OK.
Mike has said that he earned a B.Sc., I have said that I earned a B.Sc.
Since we are both posting under our real names¹, those claims can be double-
checked and confirmed.
What degree(s) have you earned, "Odd Bodkin", that enable(s) you to provide
an *informed* opinion on why a potential employer would choose a person with
a degree? And how could we double-check this, given that you have implied
that you are not even posting under your real name?
So far you have only said:
>>>>> First, the degree (even a PhD) does not necessarily demonstrate good
>>>>> discernment in research topics to apply those traits, at least not
>>>>> from what I've read.
^^^^^^^^^^^^^^
We are discussing *first-hand experience* here, "Odd Bodkin"; not things you
have heard, or books about higher education that you may have eaten lately
(like the physics books that you claim to have read).
Put your money where your big mouth is.

¹ It is certainly true regarding me, and regarding Mike at least I hope so.
The fact that there is a Canadian senator and former TV television
journalist called Mike Duffy *and* that the specified second-level domain
belongs to one Tim Thompson, instead, unfortunately casts that hope into
doubt.

My official first name is "Michael". Duffy is not a common family name, but common enough to make it difficult for cyberstalkers to mess with me, especially given all of the notoriety of the ongoing criminal trial of the senator Mike Duffy. I had no idea that the fake domain I picked for my obviously fake email address actually belongs to anyone. Thanks for pointing this out Thomas; I will shortly modify it to something verified as belonging to nobody.

Since it is easy for me to change them without notifying all of my contacts (who use the primary), I have decided to aquiesce to your suggestion to provide a workable email address which should show up in the headers for this and all subsequent messages posted by me. It's called honesty, HAVC. Honesty is always worth the trouble. Atheists
like you believe in animal values rather than morality. Animals use
coloration and "spoofing" to fool their prey so they can attack. That's
what you believe. Natural Selection. Another animal has something you
want, if you are strong enough you simply take it. If they get in your
way, you kill them. There is no morality among animals... or atheists.

Kookers are always paranoid. That's my rule. Criminals always try to
hide their identity because they KNOW they are guilty even before they
commit the crimes. That is you.

Namely because you are guilty.

Well, given your strong atheist religious faith, I hope I'm not getting
in your way!

Benj is real. I picked it as an abbreviation for BEN Jacoby. Later I
noticed that it also works as an abbreviation for "BENJAMIN" as well
just as "Ben" is. Win-win.
If I were to mock ole Spockola, he'd know it. The fact that he's a
trekkie and we have to explain name abbreviations to him says it all.
I'll bet he thinks he's learned a LOT of science at Trekkie conventions.
In fact it was being stalked and hassled by trekkies trying to convince
Boinker that star trek "science" was all real that made him get paranoid
and withdraw into his cocoon of anonymity! Hey, they held a trek
convention here once. I went down there. I wouldn't pay to get in, of
course, but the show on the sidewalk outside made it worth the trip!

Price? Just deal with a little identity theft and a few viruses on your
computer? Crap. You pussy! All it takes is to have enough intelligence
to deal with those things and it's no problem. You an Boinker are such
pussies (as Trump would say). Yet you want to tell everyone else what to do!
