I know exactly what you meant, and I also know that precision itself
is a red herring.  For numerical computation the nature of the
problem and solution algorithm are the only things that matter.

The inversion of an ill-conditioned matrix, for example, will produce
extreme error regardless of how much precision one throws at it.  In
this case the solution algorithm makes all the difference.

So forget about precision.  It is essentially meaningless.
