It is much easier in Usenet to focus yourself
only on topics you are are interested in, compared to webforums.

Webforums have much bigger data overhead
and especially user action overhead.

In past, some Usenet groups I was used to read had near 1000 posts per 
day, some reportedly even more. While it is still easily manageable by a 
good Usenet client, managing 1000 posts per day in webforums
would be a nightmare.

One of the essential features I miss in forum web applications
is ability of ignoring the threads/subthreads and killfiling the users 
with "low added value". I miss also the Usenet client processing rules.

Usenet clients are like programmable well automated Industry 4.0,
while webforums, even if newer, are rather DIY workshop.

That is one of reasons,
why many Microsoft supporting professionals and power users
use NNTP2Webforum gateways to MS support and technet forums,
when Ms revoked usage of Ms support Usenet groups,
using support forums instead.
