How about posts pertaining to physics, physics results, and the subjects 
that physicists investigate.

You may say that physicist might ask questions about God. True, but 
physicists also might play guitar and like blues music, but that doesn't 
make them subjects suitable for sci.physics.

alt.conspiracy.sci

But really.... a post about HERPES in sci.physics?

Yes, you can use a nym. It is common practice and fully endorsed on a 
WIDE variety of user forums. No, you don't need to identify yourself,
