hey,
I did some Gov Grant work in the late 70's using high power laser and 
rabbits to determine safe eye threshold in the college EE lab here.  We 
had a wooden box that held the rabitt stationary, injected some relaxing 
stuff via his ear vain, then zapped his eyeball, held open.  The laser 
was high power, made a sharp crack when it was turned on, only for a 
very short burst. then examine eye.
Other EE's were upset, they said we were blinding rabitts for money, but 
we were testing to save piolets eyes.
