I am German and 'Priester' (priests) of 'EKD' (Evangelische Kirche 
Deutschlands ~ evangelical church of Germany) do not own large mansions.

Also the churches are not that large, even if some buildings are huge.

EKD is a certain form of protestantism, which is typical for Germany.

It is very remote to the Church of England for instance, even if they 
are also Protestants.

The American forms of protestantism are almost unknown in Germany, 
similar the semi-commercial churches.
