Is he confused about the continuous solution vs. the discrete solution?

As seen in TOW:

The RMS value of a set of values (OR A CONTINUOUS-TIME WAVEFORM) is the 
square root of the arithmetic mean of the squares of the values, or the 
SQUARE OF THE FUNCTION THAT DEFINES THE CONTINUOUS WAVEFORM.

So there's a discrete definition AND a continous definition.  Guess which 
one is more correct for a continuous, periodic waveform?

For a sine wave, the RMS is a/sqrt(2).  There is no "t" in this equation.

And no, you can't claim to be using the discrete definition, then start 
talking about "instantaneous averages".  Seriously, WTF?
