To obtain the speed of the wave using just two sensors, it is first 
necessary to determine the direction from which it came, which implies 
identifying the source in the sky by other methods; presumably optical 
or radio. However, since you don't know the speed of the gravitational 
wave, you don't know when the optical or radio source should have 
appeared. Indeed, any significant deviation from the speed of light 
would give an optical or radio source that was visible before recorded 
history.

In short, this experiment was about detecting the waves, not about 
measuring their speed.
