Moroney, let me end the drama and answer the question for you both. A region of spacetime with a radius of curvature of 31 quadrillion feet is not too curved to prevent the operation of Special Relativity. Otherwise Fermilab's Don Lincoln wouldn't talk up his damned .95c pions living longer in the FL linear accelerator as a proof of SR. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Txv7V_nY2eg&list=PLCfRa7MXBEspw_7ZSTVGCXpSswdpegQHX&index=8 We are assured by the experts that the curvature (and its illusion, Newtonian gravity) at the surface of the earth is in no way inhibiting the core phenomena of special relativity. Tomorrow we'll delve into the dreadful consequences of this fact which is accepted by all professional relativists.

And how are you all on this last day of Relativity, both Special and General. C'mon Bodkin. It's all about the relative velocities vs. the curvature and has nothing to do with the strength of electromagnetic fields or the illusion of Newtonian gravity. Thank you for that beautiful alternative ending Keith Stein. Maybe we should consider co-writing something. I'm thinking about a prequel. Have your people call my people. We'll get about today's bloody business after breakfast.

As has been mentioned to you several times, being able to distinguish classical from relativistic effects is entirely dependent in the measurement being done, the precision with which that is measured, and the relative size of other physical effects which influence the result. This is BASIC freshman laboratory science skills. You lack them. If I told you that a wooden meter stick were used to measure the length of a tabletop and the reported answer was 78.5 cm, I’m quite confident you could not tell me the relative precision of that measurement, which is something that first-year students do on the first day of that first year. It makes no sense for you to try to figure these things out, let alone critique them, without these basic skills and experimental sensibilities. > > Thank you for that beautiful alternative ending Keith Stein. Let’s return to the scene of the crime. I refer to the incident in which Fire attempted to murder Bodkin with his wrench. Ice witnessed the crime through his telescope. Bodkin has yet to fully recover, as evidenced by his posts earlier today. Recall the day that…
Ice watched Fire "accidentally" drop his wrench from the top of Big Ben on Bodkin's head while he was walking to the library. Big Ben ticked off 4.426 s during that 96 m drop. But by Ice's watch it took 10.154 s to fall the 96 m.
Fermilab’s Don “Honest Abe” Lincoln assures us that the above crime took place in a region of spacetime where the postulates of Special Relativity are PROVEN to hold true and where Swarzschild says there exists a radius of curvature of 31 quadrillion feet. The witness, Ice, is in a region of almost absolute flatness.
Fire, Ice and the wrench all travel at the same 4-velocity of 31 quadrillion feet per year.
Before the police took him away, Fire quickly calculated the spacetime interval for the wrench drop as approximately the sqrt { ( [ c*4.426 ]^2 - ( 96^2 ) }. Whilst the witness Ice calculated the same interval as the sqrt { ( [ c*10.154 ]^2 - ( 96^2 ) } .
Ice’s interval is over twice as large as Fire’s. So Ice concluded that the radius of curvature on the surface of the earth was around 12 quadrillion feet AND NOT 31 quadrillion feet.
The detective summed up the evidence at the scene of the crime:
Two observers of the same event in nearly flat spacetime were SR is proven to hold good. Two VERY DIFFERENT spacetime intervals. Two VERY DIFFERENT curvatures for the same location.
And that children, is how your uncle Pat slew the twin dragons of Special and General Relativity. You are welcome.

That is nowhere near how to do the calculation.
You have 99,999 other options for guessing wrong. Is it your plan to work
through all of them until you land on the one way to do it right?

Bodkin, Bodkin, Bodkin...you have no idea how to calculate this stuff. Or do you? Why don't you show us. I'm headed up to the library now and will expect your work posted when I get back.

I already did the calculation. You obviously don’t know how to reproduce
it.
Good luck at the library. Maybe you’ll actually learn something.

If you are watching "Big Ben" through a telescope as
you approach in your rocket at 0.9 c, then for every
hour on your clock you would see Big Ben advance
According to SR: sqrt((1+0.9)/(1-0.9)) hours = 4.36 hours
According to Classical Physics: (1+.9)/1 hours = 1.9 hours.

Again, it depends on the particular situation and the precision necessary. The path of the earth around the sun is irrelevant to pions moving at nearly c 1/4 mile down a beam pipe. Measuring the dynamics of a solar/stellar system over a period of time and such GR effects are (obviously!) relevant.

Fire however would of been amazed because he too was well versed in
Relativity, and he was convinced that he himself would be the older twin
when his brother got home.

Thanks a lot Pat. I do love a tale with a good moral eh!

Epilogue
When Ice did eventually get back to Earth, first thing
he did was catch a plane to Heathrow to meet his brother Fire,
who he hadn't seen for twenty years (according to his reckoning).
The leading scientists of the day gathered in London to witness
the climax of the long controversy about the SR twins.
Fire, who had always been a bit of a clock watcher, was just
knocking off work for the day as Big Ben struck five o'clock.
He saw his brother approaching with a big crowd of scientists,
and journalists. The two brothers rushed to greed each other.
They embraced.
The picture on the front pages of all the papers the next
day was of a little puddle of water at the foot of Big Ben.
[The Sad End eh!]

It's not a contradiction in special relativity. It is proven definitely using simple mathematics in the treatise linked above that the twin paradox under the special theory of relativity is a fatal contradiction to reality. Ahjohng
