Cesium-133 is cesium-133, no matter where you get it. If you are on Mars and mine Martian cesium to make your clock, it will work just fine with no earth involvement. BTW the GPS system depends on cesium clocks, not the other way around.

How do you account for that. There would be less gravitation because Mars is further from the sun and less gravitation because Mars is a smaller planet. So the cesium on Mars would have faster transitions. Oh, I forgot, Odd Bodkin does not allow us to say transitions now.

See how easy it is to avoid making a broken clock? Because GPS engineers made GPS clocks broken!! Idiot woodworker KNOWS!!!!

Yes it would, because an hour is 3600 seconds by definition, and a second has a standard. Mars does not complete a rotation in 86,400 seconds. You can certainly manufacture a clock to mark off 24 floobahs in one Martian rotation, but a floobah is not an hour, because an hour is not based on a planetary rotation and hasn’t been for some centuries now. It’s based on a standard second. So if you build a clock to mark off 24 floobahs in one Martian rotation, it is a well built clock. If you build a clock to mark off 24 hours in a Martian day, you have built a broken clock. It’s certainly possible to build a deliberately broken clock, and that’s what you would have done in that case. Another example is the GPS satellite clock, which was built to be deliberately and carefully broken by a small amount. > It would be doing exactly what it was manufactured to do. But on the other hand, the Rover doesn’t wake up in the morning because it gets light. It just does what people on Earth program it to. And if there were a a machine in India I wanted to control from home, I wouldn’t have to equip the machine with a clock on Indian time. I would just arrive at my workplace here, sit down, look at the time here, adjust that by 10.5 or 11.5 hours and that way I’d know whether it was nighttime or daytime in India. This may seem very complicated to you, but I’m quite certain this is the way a lot of people do things like that. -- Odd Bodkin -- maker of fine toys, tools, tables

No wonder Trump wants to start a space force. This could get expensive if NASA is hiring people with your concept of time.

You can call them frotzniks if you want if you don't like floobahs. It's just not an hour, because an hour is 3600 seconds, and a second is 9,192,631,770 cycles of the Cs-133 radiation. One frotznik is longer than 1 hour. >> > It would be doing exactly what it was manufactured to do. In a sense, >> > Martian time is already being used by NASA. There are Mars rovers >> > exploring the surface of the planet Mars. So should Martian rovers be >> > operated on earth time or on Martian time? It may be doing exactly what it is supposed to do, but if it calls a second 1/60*60*24 Mars rotations(*), it is a broken clock. If it calls a second 9,192,631,770 Cs cycles (or an accurate estimate thereof) such that an average(*) Mars rotation contains 88,620 seconds, then it is a properly functioning clock. It is also a properly functioning clock if it has a little hand that goes around the clock twice (or once) every 88,620 seconds, and a big hand that goes around once every 3692.5 seconds, or even a third hand that goes around once every 61.54666... seconds, but if it claims the hands mark off hours, minutes or seconds, it is a broken clock. If it marks off frotzniks, feltons and foobars, it is a properly functioning clock if we define those units as the time units of the hands I mentioned. Remember, a second is defined as 9,192,631,770 Cs cycles, not the rotation rate of any big space rock. If the rover had a Cs clock on board, it would detect that, on average(*), a Martian solar day took 88,200 seconds, where a second was 9,192,631,770 Cs radiation periods on its Cs clock. >> There's absolutely solid reasons for wanting to have a Martian Rover clock >> calibrated to floobahs. >Martian seconds. Let's use the correct terminology. The correct terminology is that a second is 9,192,631,770 Cs radiation cycles. I have no idea whether Nasa divides the Martian solar day into floobahs or other smaller units, or what they are called. >Well, so if you were working for NASA, you would just arrive at work, >and adjust by the same number of hours every day, and drive the Martian >rover off a cliff. No wonder Trump wants to start a space force. This >could get expensive if NASA is hiring people with your concept of time. No, you would check your Mars clock to see what the local time there is in floobahs, feltons and foobars, and do what is appropriate for that local time. In reality, they just need to know if it is daylight or night both for visibility and because the rovers are powered by solar panels. (*) Because the orbit of Mars is eccentric, a good clock isn't enough to know the day/night cycle on Mars. Local noon can be incorrect by a couple of hours compared to what a clock that cycled once every 88,620 seconds.

Your fellow engineers agree. By doing oppositely? Well, anyway, they are fools able only to make broken clocks, so who cares whether they agree or not.

The less gravitation there is, the faster the cycles are. Odd Bodkin does not allow them to be called transitions now.
