I know because I have been there. I’m aware that you don’t care about facts. The only fact you care about is that you would have liked to still be logging in Lincoln County, Montana, and you can’t, and that’s a disaster as far as your concerned. And you don’t care that other people who once were loggers in Lincoln County 38 years ago have moved on successfully, either taking on new occupations and thriving in Lincoln County or moving to different locations and thriving. You don’t care that other people seem to be thriving. All that matters to you is that you haven’t thrived for four decades and that’s a disaster you’d like to blame someone for. And you are fully prepared to make up information about Lincoln County that isn’t actually true, just to try to paint a picture of disaster in Lincoln County, Montana, a backwoods area of less than 20,000 people, which is a population half the size of an average state college town. >> >>> As you said before, most of the population of Montana lives in a few >>> cities, Billings, Great Falls, Missoula, etc. The biggest city in >>> Lincoln County was the county seat, Libby, with a population of a couple >>> thousand when I lived there. >>>>> >>>>>> As for what you said about logging in Montana, what you said earlier is >>>>>> that the only logging in Montana are a couple of private outfits who own >>>>>> their own trees. >>>>> I said that the only lumber companies still operating in the Pacific >>>>> Northwest are companies with their own trees like Weyerhauser. >>>>> Weyerhauser is not in Montana. I don’t know about you, but I double-check everything that Trump claims to be true by looking up actual facts. I suggest you do the same. This way, you can ascertain whether Trump is doing what he claims he is doing, and that way you will have both a measure of his effectiveness and his ability to tell the truth. >> >> I gather you think it is unfair that people be asked to choose between >> staying in the same location but changing occupation, or staying in the >> same occupation but changing location. This is asking too much. >> > Who is doing the asking? The lumber industry was a necessary industry. That, sir, is your opinion. It was a necessary industry in your eyes because you were employed by it. It was a necessary industry because if people wanted to build a 5500 square foot home for two people and a cat out in farmland, then by golly they should do that and build it out of wood. It was necessary because if people want to build beach houses on barrier islands so that hurricanes could blow them down or flood them out every decade or so, then you’d need wood to build them in the same spot with the same construction design all over again, so that insurance could pay for rebuilding them again in a decade. Back in the days of Henry Ford, cars were built with holsters for buggy whips because people felt strongly that horses were a necessary industry. Some people are remarkably resistant to change if that change involves what they do for a living. > The Democratic Party shut it down. The steel and aluminum industries > were necessary industries. As for Mr Trump and the coal industry. In its heyday, coal produced about half of the electrical power in this country and was being shipped abroad for high prices. So what has Mr Trump done to restore the coal industry, especially since he campaigned in Appalachia by telling miners they were going back to work? In 20 months, almost half of his term in office, the number of jobs in coal have increased by 900. That’s 900. Nationwide. Meanwhile coal production is up by 6%, but most of that is due to several coal mining companies that have had to restructure during bankruptcy, saving production costs. Meanwhile coal consumption has dropped both domestically and abroad by about 10% during Trump’s time in office, and so naturally prices have continued to fall as supply exceeds demand. So are these workers that were idled by falling coal demand being saved by a boom in the coal industry? So you say whether Trump is doing what he said he’s doing hinges in midterm elections. I don’t know about what you’re thinking here, but whether senators and house representatives get elected doesn’t tell me what Trump has accomplished. Numbers tell me what Trump has accomplished. Robert, you are under some opinion that all information that is available is politically motivated and controlled. The prevailing party is the Republican Party. The Republican Party was in control when Trump claimed that there were a million and a half people on the Mall at his inauguration. If the information were controlled by the Republican Party, then all of the pictures would have showed a million and a half people. However, the pictures did not show that. If the prevailing Republican Party were in control of all the information about coal mining, then it would not show that coal mining employment has been flat, the profits weaker, and the sales down. If you are not bothering to check on the information yourself and are only relying on what Mr Trump says he is accomplishing, then I wish you well in your little adoration party. Note that when Trump gave his speech to the UN and announced that he’s had the most successful administration since Lincoln, the prevailing Republican Party freely allowed the information to be shared that UN representatives around the world laughed at him. > >> The thing about facts is that they exist whether or not politicians talk >> about them. There is a lumber industry in Montana. I’ve given you the numbers. It’s not in Lincoln County, which is the only part of Montana you consider real. And you’ve decided that you are too old to work in a sawmill in Lincoln County anyway, because you have too much to do sitting on your rear posting to Usenet and receiving Social Security. So we will see if he opens a sawmill in Lincoln County. That way we will know if he is truly successful in your eyes. So far, 20 months in, 42% of his term in office, he hasn’t managed it. >> >>> If the Republicans keep control of Congress, Trump will stay in office, >>> and the Democrats will lose control of the Judicial Branch of government, >>> which they have controlled since 1803, except for a short time when >>> Lincoln was President. Well, one reason why I give you such a bad time is that everything you post is Democratic Party propaganda, and I know all the Republican comebacks. What pictures show is fairly irrelevant because both sides use phony pictures. Hillary Clinton went through her whole campaign faking that she had big campaign rallies like Trump was having. She would have done better if she had told her followers the truth: We need to do better than this or we are going to lose the election. But I think she honestly believed that there was no way she could lose. The Party machine had it all arranged. I have to give Trump credit. When it comes to party propaganda, he has the Democrats beat seven ways from Sunday, and the Democrats control the judicial branch of government and the news media. > If you are not bothering to check on the information yourself and are only > relying on what Mr Trump says he is accomplishing, then I wish you well in > your little adoration party. Note that when Trump gave his speech to the UN > and announced that he’s had the most successful administration since > Lincoln, the prevailing Republican Party freely allowed the information to > be shared that UN representatives around the world laughed at him. > Trump does not mind the UN representatives around the world laughing at him. It just proves to his Republican base that he is not a globalist like Obama was, although I personally think he is. What I watch are the numbers. If Trump gets two coal miners in West Virginia back to work, he will go to those two coal miners and ask, Did I get you back to work, and they will say, Yes. But the real numbers are these: Democrats used to be the biggest block of voters at 37%. Republicans were always in the 20's, about 20% after the economic crisis. The unpopularity of the Republicans did not benefit the Democrats in numbers after 2008 even though they controlled all three branches of government. Democrats continued to decrease in popularity. Republicans stayed about where they were. What happened during Obama's administration was an increase in independent voters. Once Trump was elected, there was a slight increase in the number of Republicans, which was understandable, since what he had done was considered impossible by both major parties. So now the two major parties are both in the high twenties percentagewise, and independent voters are coming close to half of the voters. Once they go over 50%, Republicans and Democrats are done. The United States is going to get rid of the two party system. The key to the matter is voter registration, which the two major parties let slip away from their control, so they are not going to last. I wrote a book about this back when the economy crashed, added another chapter in 2012, and published it on Amazon. What I predicted is going to happen. I had it backwards because I thought the Republicans were going to go below 20%, which would have finished them as a party, leaving just the Democrats and the independents. Then independents would have split into party leaning independents and true independents, keeping Democrats in power until the people got tired of them and voted them out. Trump is making it go a lot faster because from all appearances, there will be no blue wave in November. That means that as soon as there are independent candidates, the two party system is done. Of course, I could be wrong about the way the election will go in November, in which case, Trump will be removed from office, and what I thought would happen back in 2012 will take place. > >> The thing about facts is that they exist whether or not politicians talk > >> about them. You say there are no facts to look up that aren’t controlled by parties and I should pay attention to political party machinations and use party propaganda. I’m sorry, I’m just not going to do that. There is a man running for a Congressional seat in West Virginia who has decided to run as a Democrat. He says he voted for Trump in the basis of those coal promises, but now has come to realize that Trump has not done so well on his promises. In the national election, the district he is running for voted overwhelmingly Republican, but this now Democrat candidate is polling dead even with the Republican candidate. I don't think they are. That is the difference between us. I agree with you that most people who register independent are socialists like you. Socialism cannot exist without a state sponsored party. The Democrats thought that they were going to become the Socialist Party of America. Instead, their party is disappearing before their eyes. Republicans will become the Socialist Party of America, but they do not want to be socialists. That leaves socialists like you who want independent voters to become a Socialist Party, but it is not going to happen. So the two-party system is going to disappear, and free and open elections will be established right here in the United States. Wait and see. That is what is going to happen. If political parties were increasing, there would be a Civil War, like in 1860, but there are too many independent voters this time. The two-party system is going to disappear.

But I hope you will take advantage of our system of party-controlled elections and go the the polls and vote for the party politicians of your choice.

I think they form a check and balance against both the Executive and legislative branches, and the lifetime appointments are there precisely to protect against the wild oscillations of policy that come with elections in those two branches, which is exactly the argument of the founding fathers. Building that effective check/balance in no way makes the Judiciary a dictatorship. Dictators have Executive power. Dictators have Legislative power. The Judiciary has neither, and they have the ability to affirm or strike down only. Exaggeration on your part to demonize their designed powers accomplishes nothing except make you appear radicalized. > I do not belong to a political party or support any party agenda. And I have a gripe about you calling anyone who favors more government than local government a socialist. > But I hope you will take advantage of our system of party-controlled > elections and go the the polls and vote for the party politicians of your choice. > I do every chance I have. So I will answer your challenge and we will see who lives longer, you or me. This is a fairly easy contest for me. I just do what I would have done anyway.
