The don't even know what a clock is, much less an atomic. There is no "re-adjusting" mechanism build in. Check any book or paper on how cesium atomic clocks work. They are basically just ordinary quartz crystal clocks with a self-adjusting component added on. The self-adjusting component is the atomic clock part. It adjusts the clock to tick at the same rate as cesium atoms spin at that location. Ed

It's about choosing a Natural, stable, high enough frequency, to drive that clock. That's the whole point in having that atom, NOT to be "self-adjustable" as you postulate, but to stay constant, as much as possible. You made a fool of yourself.

That's the whole point in having that > atom, NOT to be "self-adjustable" as you postulate, but to stay constant, > as much as possible. You made a fool of yourself. You are misunderstanding. An atomic clock self-adjusts to stay constant. An atomic clock is meant to remain in one place, to be a "standard" for other kinds of clocks that are less accurate. However, when you move an atomic clock, it self-adjusts to its new location. Every atomic clock in the world ticks at a slightly different rate due to it's different location. That is why they have a standard. From my paper on "The Reality of Time Dilation": “International Atomic Time” or TAI (from the French name Temps Atomique International) involves keeping track of time data produced by 391 atomic clocks distributed all over the world in 69 different institutes (as of October 2010).[4] Most of the clocks are located at National Metrology (weights and measures) Institutes. In the 1970s, it became clear that all the clocks participating in TAI were ticking at slightly different rates, mostly due to gravitational Time Dilation. The NIST’s clock in Boulder, Colorado, for example, was at least 5,430 feet above sea level, while an atomic clock at the National Physical Laboratory in Teddington, England, was likely less than 100 feet above sea level. Today’s adjusted TAI scale, therefore, corresponds to an average time at mean sea level. Because the participating clocks had been mostly located well above sea level, that meant that the official TAI second slowed down by about one part in a trillion, i.e., the official second became about one picosecond longer." My paper: http://vixra.org/pdf/1505.0234v5.pdf Reference [4]: [4] Dennis D. McCarthy and P. Kenneth Seidelmann, Time: From Earth Rotation to Atomic Physics (Wiley-VCH, 2009), pp. 189-222 Every atomic clock ticks at a slightly different rate due mainly to differences in altitude. So, if you want your atomic clock to measure time at the same rate as "International Atomic Time," you have to reset your clock periodically. Ed

An atomic clock self-adjusts to stay constant. Good grief! The whole point of an atomic clock is that it is an EXTREMELY STABLE source of time. If it "self-adjusts", how can it be stable?? And how does it know what to "self-adjusts" TO???? And whatever it "self-adjusts" to, how stable is THAT? It's pretty bad when the nymshifting troll knows more than you!

It adjusts to the oscillation rate of cesium-133 atoms. That is as stable as we know how to make a clock. Just do a Google search for "How do atomic clocks work?", and you'll find many articles on the subject. I have filed away about a dozen. One says, "The part of an atomic clock which is responsible for keeping time is actually a quartz crystal oscillator. In most quartz clocks, the oscillator is tuned accurately when the clock is made but its frequency is never checked again. Over time, its frequency changes slightly but unpredictably, making the clock fast or slow. "The purpose of the complicated apparatus in an atomic clock is to check the frequency of the quartz oscillator continually, giving the clock its great accuracy." It takes billions of years for light to reach us from distant stars. Those stars WERE younger that our sun when their light was emitted. Many of the stars may no longer exist. > > Assuming you agree, then imagine an intelligent species on > a planet orbiting one of those stars and looking in our > direction. What do they see? And whether the sun is older or younger than their local star/sun is not easily determined. The only important point is: due to the speed of light, they they are seeing their sun as it existed minutes earlier, and they are seeing OUR sun as it existed millions or billions of years ago. > > > > > Einstein's experiment involves a clock that moves and then is brought side > > by side with a clock that did NOT move. If, by some magic, you have a twin that is a trillion miles away on a planet that is moving faster than Earth, then that twin will age slower because his planet is moving faster. How do we know his planet is moving faster? It's not an arbitrary frame of reference. There is a limit to how fast light can travel. And there is a limit to how slow time can tick. Clocks slow down more and more as they go faster and faster. When they reach the speed of light, the clock stops because time stops. > > Someday you'll get it, but only if you think through these things carefully. > Ed Someday you'll get it, but only if you think through these things carefully. You do know that this exp is routinely done (in inertial frames btw) and the observed result is that both twins receive the signals at the exact same rate. Its 100% symmetrical.
