I just let them know that option is available, since they seem so unhappy that the Galilean transformation equations do not have a length contraction.

Not very nice of you. > since they seem so unhappy that the Galilean transformation equations > do not have a length contraction. Nobody is "unhappy" with the GT because they KNOW that it gives false predictions under certain conditions and they will then use the LT. Only really, really stupid people think that ALL problems can be solved with a hammer (a.k.a., the GT).

That is not true, Robert. The statement t’=t is not a definition of either t or t’. We’ve discussed this before. You’ve also correctly stated what the definition of the time variables are elsewhere in this thread. But the only way you can seem to reconcile that definition of the time variable in a reference frame with what you claim to be another definition of t’ in an equation, is to abandon the principle of relativity, which was Galileo’s chief insight behind the transformations. That means there is a common measurement of time that applies to both frames of reference. It could be any measurement of time. It could be the rotation of the earth. It could be a clock. It could be an hourglass. It could be a chemical reaction. As long as the same reference for time is used in both frames of reference, the equation is true. But if you have a clock in S' that has a rate that is different from the rate of a clock in S, and the clock in S shows t, then the time of the clock in S' is not t'. Sorry. You see, this is what I’ve been trying to tell you. It doesn’t make any sense to discuss the equations in the Galilean transformations if you don’t know what the variables in the equations mean. You are insisting that you should be allowed to make up for yourself what they mean. But if you do that, you’re no longer talking about Newtonian and Galilean relativity, which is the topic of this thread. > It could be any measurement of time. To you, wisdom is the freedom of choosing your reality. >> > Sorry, but clock do not control time. They measure time, some clocks better than others. > No one said clocks control time. Equations also do not control time. Humans in fact do not control time in any way. Time in nature just does what it does. What science does is build models that represent how nature works. Models will involve quantities that can be measured, and there will be equations that express relations between those measurable quantities. And of course, in science, a key activity is testing the model’s equations by actually doing measurements of those measurable quantities. Quite often, you have to make very precise measurements to distinguish two models that have very slightly different relations between measurable quantities. But those slight numerical differences in the equations can be signatures of very large differences in the models. So since the ONLY way to determine the truth about a model is by actual measurements, then clocks provide the key insight into how time actually works in nature. You may not like that, as it diminishes the importance of personal choice. But what you like and don’t like is of no consequence to anyone but you. -- Odd Bodkin — Maker of fine toys, tools, tables

I have already said many times that I do not believe there are any people in science today capable of understanding the Galilean transformation equations. You seem dedicated to proving me right.

You are projecting again. If it wasn't of consequence, then you would have lost interest in this discussion long ago. Seems to be a rather dumb thing to say, since they are so simple. However, you appear to be having trouble understanding them. Anyway, people in science understand them just fine, which is why they are no longer used, except as an approximation.

Why would anyone want to approximate the incorrect mathematics of the Lorentz equations?
