I’ve been talking about the principle of relativity, and about precision measurements, and about the definition of the variables in the equations, all of which are essential to Newtonian and Galilean relativity. Instead, you say no, it’s really all just about the equations and how much you like them. You say this because you don’t know enough about Newtonian and Galilean relativity to discuss it intelligently. To deflect from that obvious fact, that’s when you start talking about no one having ever explained photons, or that Newton believed in a luminiferous ether, or that Einstein claimed that the Michelson Morley experiment proved the Galilean transformations wrong, or that physicists are to blame for forest fires, or any number of other silly things you can think of to say. To me, it’s just idle deflections on your part because you have so little to say that is informed or intelligent. -- Odd Bodkin -- maker of fine toys, tools, tables

Well, what you are saying is that the Galilean transformation equations are incapable of showing the times of a clock with a different rate. All you have to do is use a second set of Galilean transformation equations with different variables for time and velocity.

With the Galilean transform, the only clocks that can exist are ideal clocks which all display the same time, and broken clocks which display the wrong time for some reason.

That sounds like a very strange world. Perhaps some of these nice scientists who believe in the length contraction would agree with you.

Now you >> consider its results as "very strange"?? >Your interpretation of the Galilean transformation equations is what is >strange. It's not "my interpretation", it's how things are, or would be if the Galilean transform was true. Since t'=t, that means for *any* reference frame S with a standard clock, and *any other* reference frame S' also with a standard clock, both clocks must read the same time, because t'=t. That's what t'=t means! That's how Galileo and Newton viewed the universe. Time was the same everywhere to them. In other transforms, if t' != t, then it is possible for two correctly operating clocks to display different times, but you said you only want to discuss the Galilean transform so I won't say anything further about them. If, somehow, there is some other clock in this Galilean universe that does NOT display the same time as every other standard clock in the universe, that clock is broken. It doesn't matter whether the clock is fast, slow, stopped or running backwards, it is broken. The only possible exception if if the clock is misset but otherwise advances properly. A clock that is always 2 hours behind, for example. That "broken" clock can be "repaired" by setting it properly, at which point it displays the correct time and is no longer "broken".

Well, I would point out that if you have two clocks that you consider to be standard, and one of the clocks is put in motion relative to the other, then according to Einstein, the moving clock becomes what you call a broken clock. Then if the broken clock is slowed down and stopped from moving relative to the other clock, it becomes a clock that is no longer broken. How do you explain it? The clock goes back and forth from being unbroken to broken, etc. I think you would do better to just let clocks be clocks.

We're discussing the Galilean Transform. Einstein was discussing what we now call the Lorentz Transform. Remember, it was YOU who kept demanding we stick to the Galilean Transform in this topic! So why did YOU bring up Einstein and the Lorentz Transform???? In the Galilean Transform, if two clocks are moving at high speed relative to each other, they still read the same, because, well, t'=t.

I didn't bring up Einstein and the Lorentz transform. Einstein did. Other scientists did. They said that clocks in S' were doing all sorts of things other than t'=t. Sometimes they were slower. Sometimes they were faster. So I used two sets of Galilean transformation equations in any of these circumstances where scientists said they had two REAL clocks that did not agree with each other. That solves the problem.

Einstein was able to write an entire chapter in his book about the Galilean transformation equations. Then he said that the Michelson-Morley experiment had proven the Galilean transformation equations wrong, and the rest of his book was about the Lorentz equations. I said that the Lorentz equations were wrong and that the Galilean transformation equations were correct. So I will mention the Lorentz equations whenever I want to talk about the Lorentz equations. I will talk about the Galilean transformation equations whenever I want to talk about the Galilean transformation equations. We have freedom of speech here in the United States. Anyone who disagrees with me can disagree with me. Anyone who wants to delete the Galilean transformation equations will be provided Galilean transformation equations to delete. Here are some Galilean transformation equations you can delete.
x'=x-vt
y'=y
z'=z
t'=t

THE LORENTZ TRANSFORMATION The results of the last three sections show that the apparent incompatibility of the law of propagation of light with the principle of relativity (Galilean) has been derived by means of a consideration which borrowed two unjustifiable hypothesis from classical mechanics; these are as follows: 1. The time-interval (time) between to events is independent of the condition of motion of the body of reference. 2. The space-interval (distance) between two points of a rigid body is independent of the condition of motion of the body of reference. If we drop these hypothesis, the the dilemma of Section 7 disappears because the theorem of the addition of velocities derived in Section 6 disappears. I know how you dislike doing research for yourself. Any time you feel too lazy to look something up, just come here to my discussion of Newton and Galilean Relativity and have me do it.

Don’t you? Before the Michelson-Morley experiment, scientists thought they had to add or subtract the speed of the ether from the speed of light. Show me where in those three chapters Einstein was adding or subtracting the speed of the ether from the speed of light.
