Ed, you can talk as much as you want, and nothing will change: you'll understand NOTHING unless you learn the subject (that includes all the necessary mathematics). Telling an expert that he doesn't know his field is a dead-end. He knows this stuff, you don't, and that's the end of it. (That you are not convinced of it is typical and of no consequence.) > If I'm wrong, I'm looking for someone to explain WHERE I am wrong. As you (as an adult (I presume)) should know, this can be done only by teaching you the stuff. There is no other way. But this is precisely what you refuse to do. People have been telling WHERE you are wrong for months now, to no avail. Instead, you concocted a fantasy that doesn't correspond to anything called "physics" in the real world, and whose only goal is to deaden your own "intellectual conscience" which would have alerted you immediately (if you hadn't smothered it) that you embark on a path of self-deception, wasted time, dreams of castles in the air, and intellectual dishonesty in general. > Instead, they DECLARE that I must read the books they read, attend the classes they attend, Yes, "attending classes" and "reading books" is one efficient way of acquiring the knowledge you thirst for. > and then I will believe as they believe. No. Then you will KNOW, not "believe". We're not talking about religion here. BTW, your choice of the word, "believe", is telling: you have simply decided that: 1. what you assume is correct no matter what anyone tells you, 2. experts don't understand anything anyway as their only knowledge is "math" and they "merely" acquired a new set of "beliefs" (to which you are "immune"). You are chasing a fata morgana. -- Jan

You have to have continuity in those area, there is none. I strongly start to suspect he hot his moving bodies directly from Dr. Poincare and other guys as well. There are *several*; *three* of them *in the same year* have been groundbreaking. Einstein received his Nobel Prize in Physics 1921 mainly for the first one that preceded “_On_ the Electrodynamics of _Moving_ Bodies”, namely “On a Heuristic Point of View Concerning the Production and Transformation of Light”. You just have no clue: <https://einsteinpapers.press.princeton.edu/> <https://einsteinpapers.press.princeton.edu/vol2-doc/> <https://einsteinpapers.press.princeton.edu/vol2-trans/> Also, it is interesting to note that you how you judge people by their day job rather than their contribution to society. JFYI, Einstein started working at the Swiss Patent Office in 1901, and quit there in 1908 when he was recognized as a *leading* scientist and *offered* a position as lecturer at the University of Bern. What is your day job, if any? When have you been recognized as a leading scientist and offered a position as a university lecturer the last time, if any? (Go ahead, insult me and post libel about me again. I don’t care. It will be just more evidence to be added to your aioe.org abuse record, which will eventually lead to your being blocked from posting, and we will finally have peace.) -- PointedEars Twitter: @PointedEars2 Please do not cc me. / Bitte keine Kopien per E-Mail.

They would never do that. However, the troll’s Usenet provider, aioe.org, just let me know that, as the result of the troll’s repeated violation of the terms of use, as the provider learned from my repeated complaints, the provider has blocked the troll from posting. So we will have peace for a while. (Probably the troll will find another way to post nonsense, but that will be easier to filter out, and given their MO it will not be long before their new provider will kick/block them, too.) BTW, posting with a fake address header is inappropriate behavior and usually constitutes a violation of the terms of use. -- PointedEars Twitter: @PointedEars2 Please do not cc me. / Bitte keine Kopien per E-Mail.

Microsoft updated Windows 10 this morning and wiped out all of my bookmarks, my automated passwords, and a lot of other stuff. I'm going to be recovering from that for awhile. So, I won't have time to post here. Too bad, since it was REALLY getting interesting. Hopefully, I'll be back in a day or so. Ed

This is a VERY interesting thread. It fully confirms what I've been saying: Mathematicians use mathematical models that have no relationship to reality. As we see in the posts here, they cannot match their mathematical models to the REAL experiments done by Hafele and Keating. And that experiment was basically repeated with the Maryland Experiment, the National Physical Laboratory 1996 and 2010 experiments, and the van Baak 2005 and 2016 experiments. http://www.ed-lake.com/Time-Dilation-Experiments.html The idea that two objects can be moving at different speeds seems incomprehensible to them. One MUST be stationary and the other MUST be moving, AND their movements MUST be reciprocal. That is the ONLY way they understand things. It is what their mathematical models demand. Fascinating. Ed

Probably what you meant is that "physicists use mathematical models". So the real experiments are worthless if they are not based in the mathematical model they are trying to verify (or falsify). If a real clock moving through spacetime would not show time dilation, it would mean both SR and GR are then falsified and wrong. > The idea that two objects can be moving at different speeds seems > incomprehensible to them. The instruments used for those comparisons (at each clock) are at rest with respect to those clocks. I am at one laboratory, with one atomic clock. That clock is not moving relative to me. You are inside an airplane, with another atomic clock and instrumentation. Both the clock and the instruments are not moving with respect to you, so they are at rest with respect to you. Nice and easy!!!

What people usually think is reality would be chemical reactions and interaction of interfaces. Which in fact is choosing to believe in chemical reactions alone. Very funny indeed.

Good point. Hafele and Keating DID compute their expected time dilation results BEFORE going on their trips. So they DID use mathematical models. However, their mathematical models are evidently not the same mathematical models you use. There was NOTHING AT REST in their mathematical models. > So the real experiments are worthless if they are not based in the mathematical > model they are trying to verify (or falsify). If a real clock moving through > spacetime would not show time dilation, it would mean both SR and GR are then > falsified and wrong. The problem is: Your mathematical models seem based upon the notion that motion is reciprocal. There is nothing like that in the models that Hafele and Keating used. > > > The idea that two objects can be moving at different speeds seems > > incomprehensible to them. One MUST be stationary and the other MUST > > be moving, AND their movements MUST be reciprocal. That is the ONLY way > > they understand things. Both the clock and the > instruments are not moving with respect to you, so they are at rest with respect > to you. > > Nice and easy!!! But it has nothing to do with reality. In reality, there is NOTHING "AT REST". As soon as you think of things being "at rest," you get into the area of reciprocal motion. THERE IS NO RECIPROCAL MOTION IN THE EXPERIMENTS. The USNO clock was moving at 1000 mph as the earth spins on its axis. The clocks Hafele and Keating carried with them moved at 1000 mph PLUS 600 mph when traveling eastward, and 1000 mph MINUS 600 mph when moving westward. Nothing is "at rest." Mathematically, Hafele and Keating were moving 600 mph faster than the USNO clock when they traveled eastward. So, their speed can be compared to zero to get the time dilation DIFFERENCE estimate. But there is nothing reciprocal. When traveling westward at 600 mph, Hafele and Keating were moving 400 mph SLOWER than the USNO clock, not 600 mph slower, not 600 mph faster. The spin of the earth has to be taken into account. The USNO clock was NOT at rest. It was moving at 1000 mph EASTward while H&K were moving at 600 mph WESTward. To calculate the DIFFERENCE in time dilation, you subtract 600 from 1000, you do not assume the USNO is "at rest" and subtract 600 from zero. Ed
