As for virtual particles, it's your lack of education biting you again. Physics in the past was full of similar models which were simply "stopgaps" for quantification (the concept of "potential energy" in Newtonian mechanics is a standard example, the "action" of Maupertuis is another, field momentum in classical electrodynamics yet another). These "stopgaps" are not bad things since they deliver what they are designed to do 100%, even if they do not rely on any "underlying model". You are CONSTANTLY mixing science with philosophy and keep asking for final causes of one sort of another, and reject an abstract concept for similar purely philosophical reasons. But philosophy ITSELF ought to have told you that this wish may very well be not possible to get even IN PRINCIPLE. We just don't know. But we cannot stop all physics and abandon the ability to quantify and predict actual results of things happening in the real world JUST because an abstract concept X has no underlying even more basic concept Y that's closer to our sensory input. Also, that complication may well be a consequence of our senses' mode of operation. In actuality the Fundamental Reality Itself could be Simplicity Itself (that's what old myths say all the time). Consider that sensation of "blue" I mentioned earlier: it's simplicity itself, you "get" it instantly and without any effort whatsoever. But just TRY to describe the physiology of it and the mixing of the three LMS signals in your retina - it's all FANTASTICALLY complex (we still don't even know what exactly goes down the optic nerve to the brain, and that's the simplest bit of it). So you see, the same thing can be extremely simple and also appear extremely complex when merely changing a point of view. As far as vision is concerned, we are lucky to have access to a point of view that's right "inside" the very core of the phenomenon, so it's given to us directly. (This is called "contemplation" in mystic texts, meaning knowing something through _becoming one with it_ rather than by _thinking about it_.) We can also study vision from the "outside", by analysing it by thoughts and it gets incredibly complicated that way. So it's quite tenable to speculate that if we were similarly in the very "centre" of reality, we would not have to deal with any of this "outside"-based analytic complication AT ALL in order to fully comprehend it. So don't confuse a mere appearance of the world with any true nature or reality (whatever it is). It's an unconscious application of a _philosophical_ stance to science on your part. I have nothing against philosophy or even religion, what I don't like is mixing everything up into a big chaotic mush. > I know that the physical reality is not as complex as you mathematicians make it out to be. This has nothing to do with mathematics per se. The reason physicists use mathematics is because mathematics is by far the SIMPLEST TOOL that allows quantifying and modelling the relevant phenomena.
