The PoR rejects the bogus concept of Relativity of Simultaneity (RoS) Why? The PoR says that the laws of physics in my frame is the same as the laws of physics in the train moving wrt me. That means that if I found two events in my frame to be simultaneous, the train observer must also find the two identical events in his frame to be simultaneous. Einstein knew this, but he needed the PoR to cancel out the paradoxes derived from his P2 and that’s why he introduced the PoR as a concept and not as a postulate.

EVERYONE believed in a light medium back in Maxwell's day. He died (1879) before the Michelson-Morley experiments were performed (1887) which cast some doubt on the luminiferous aether. Maxwell didn't seem to understand the significance of his c=sqrt(1/(e0*mu0)), meaning the speed of light was constant for every observer. Low pressure hydrogen is irrelevant, as the difference between the speed of light in the interstellar medium and theoretical exact c is almost unmeasureable. (Fizeau experiment with n almost exactly 1) You were already told about that.

To Maxwell that "medium" was AETHER, not hydrogen gas. Today we know better. Maxwell invoked an aether at the beginning of his derivation; in his original theory, electric and magnetic fields are stresses and strains in the aether, and light is a mechanical wave in the aether. Bottom line: what we call "Maxwell's equations" today is not at all his original theory of 1865. His original theory is solidly refuted, but the post-SR reincarnation of four of his equations is valid in the non-quantum realm of electrodynamics. Tom Roberts

Oh my, so 'Maxwell's Equations' (as I know them) were not really by Maxwell. Do you have a quick reference offhand what his origional 8 were and how they were updated/reduced to 4? If not I'll Google it, just won't be as easy since I don't know exactly what to look for. I do remember AP babbling about some original 20 or so Maxwell equations, meybe he will turn out to be useful if I find his old posts.
