Nothing stops us from using Newtonian mechanics as first approximation for many conditions. Bridge design is not going to bother with the more correct but more complicated Einstein equation of gravity because we aren't building bridges over super massive objects. But if you want to calculate the orbit of a star close to the massive object at the center of our galaxy, you better turn Einstein. And regarding the car crash example, Newtonian mechanics assumes absolute time so all observers agree on the timing of events. Ed

Yeah, I'm sure it was generally considered by you. Sane people know that another newtonian theory has to be used here, and advanced thinkers know even more.

Consistency within theories is entirely irrelevant. The theories that
assume relativity is correct are not accepted because of that fact. They
are accepted because of agreement with experiment that singled out that
theories among all currently known rivals. Period, end of story.
A good example is QED, which clearly assumes relativity is correct. But the
validity of QED is based on comparison with a number of precision
measurements which agree with QED to the TWELFTH decimal place. The kicker
here is that there are literally NO other known theories that get those
numbers right to that precision.
So you are worrying entirely too much about the theoretical edifice when it
is and always has been about experimental test. Perhaps you should spend a
while looking at the experimental information.

I searched for this and I found this web page: http://www.oc.nps.edu/oc2902w/gps/timsys.html I'm not sure if you talked about the same thing, but it's interesting how it shows that UTC time needs to be adjusted every year with 1 second, and it says "The world does not rotate smoothly". > > Wouldn't be that acceptable error resulting from the fact that the speed of satellites can be ignored compared to the speed of light? > > No.

There are a lot of interesting things about time, but one thing is sure: every serious standard of time (UTC,TAI, GPS, ECI) assumes clocks indicating t'=t with a precision of an acceptable error), i.e. galilean transform. "local time", this incredibly ingenious revolutionary concept of our beloved Great Guru - practically doesn't exist. SI standard, designed especially to protect The Shit against common sense and force us to apply this idiocy - is dead. Of course - standards of the real world are set by common sense, this collection of prejudices. They always were. But a bunch of fanatic followers of The Shit is continuing to enchant the reality and pretend that clocks DIRECTLY INDICATING galilean transform confirm their precious time dilation.

Thanks. At least I found someone else from the same universe :) I have watched a few movies by Michio Kaku. They are really fascinating, but it's like watching science-fiction movies which are mostly fiction than science.

At least I found someone else from the same universe :) Yes, you are a kindred soul with the most hardened crank in this forum. Birds of a feather....

Every reference-body (co-ordinate system) has its own particular time; unless we are told the reference-body to which the statement of time refers, there is no meaning in a statement of the time of an event." This means that having the train moving at speed v with respect to the embankment is the same as having the embankment moving at speed -v with respect to the train and in both cases the relativity of simultaneity holds true.
