"The closing speed of light" is a sentence that makes no sense. Closing speeds requires you to specify 3 things: a frame, and two things traveling. You only specified one traveling thing, the light. You are missing two things so that "closing speed" makes any sense. Try again you stupid idiot. > and RoS says that the closing speed of light is different in > different frames. P2 states that the speed of light is isotropic in all frames, not the closing speed of light (and what?). And no, the RoS does NOT state the speed of light or the closing speed of light is not isotropic, Stupid Ken. Do you even know what a closing speed is? Oh yes, we've been through this before, the answer is no, you don't.

It's the fashion now to point out that math of the laws of physics works equally well backwards and forwards in time. So those who believe that math is more real than reality go around asserting that reality goes backwards and forwards in time and hence causality is not valid. And QM action at a distance proves that everything is connected FTL and it's a holographic universe (if you know that that implies). The only problem is that like the bogus story of all the air being found in the corner of the room one day, time is never observed to run backwards. And future events are not seen to cause present events. Or is ESP true?

I use the dictionary and logic to give meaning to words and you just use your made up jargon and then say all physicists agree with you. You have NEVER given any reference that defines a wave without a medium. It simply makes no logical sense except to you somehow. And that explains it all. You have no idea of what a wave actually is.

Last time you claimed a book said something, it turned out the book did NOT say that, and then you muttered something about this proving that the book is wrong. Ben, lying deliberately to troll is a pitiable character flaw. It seems to be your reason for living these days. It's like you get up in the morning and gaze in the mirror and say, "It doesn't matter what you say, Ben old boy, as long as you are trying to get their goat." > >>> >>> As a philosophy major the logical meaning of words plays no role in your >>> thinking, right? Bullshit, Ben. Just a little while ago, we looked at YOUR reference and what it said, where it noted that not all waves require a medium. You said the book is therefore WRONG. What you use is YOUR OWN FUCKING HEAD, out of which you claim to have "scientific knowledge" of how things work. The problem is, you can no longer tell what it is you KNOW is true and what it is you THINK is true and what it is you THINK YOU KNOW is true. > It simply makes no logical sense > except to you somehow. Just a little while ago, we looked at YOUR reference and > what it said, where it noted that not all waves require a medium. You > said the book is therefore WRONG. Total lying dishonest bullshit! I gave you an example of a book that I said was wrong when you said there were none and you lied that I never gave the reference so I gave it again. And then YOU took my example of a book I said was in error as proof of your assertion that physicist say waves don't need a medium! Talk about circular logic. Talk about dishonest crap. You must be a media person. Do you write articles blasting Trump by twisting truth theses days like your colleagues? Obviously you have a talent for it. This is not froth. I'm not mad. SOrry HVAC you are still nuts. > What you use is YOUR OWN FUCKING HEAD, out of which you claim to have > "scientific knowledge" of how things work. Don't be so dishonest an lie like that pathological liar HVAC. Nobody respects him. When you say things on the internet there is a record of them. Don't make me go look them up. Lying about what you said works in a conversation but not here! Don't be so ignorant. Have you forgotten you are the amateur here and I am the professional?

On 2/7/17 2/7/17 4:47 PM, benj wrote: > Are you denying causality as a law of physics? That depends in detail on what you mean by "causality". The common meaning of the word, which is what you seem to mean, has only a minor place in physics, because it is at best an APPROXIMATION to phenomena; it is so incredibly ambiguous that it is quite useless in forming physical theories. I strike a match: what "caused" the flame? -- My action of moving the match head across a rough surface? The muscle contractions and nerve impulses in my hand? The combination of P and O atoms? The detailed chemistry of P and O atoms that generates an exothermic reaction? My desire for heat and light? How could one possibly quantify such ambiguity? Bottom line: YOU DON'T KNOW what "causes" anything, you just have vague notions that happen to work in your everyday life (and which DON'T work in other regimes). At base you make a domain error: It is hopeless to attempt to model my example above using physical theories, because it is VASTLY too complicated. Indeed, any situation to which you would apply "causality" is likewise far too complicated for physical modeling. YOUR "COMMON SENSE" ABOUT THE SITUATIONS YOU KNOW DOES NOT CARRY OVER INTO DOMAINS IN WHICH PHYSICAL THEORIES APPLY. You also make an approximation error: for almost any situation to which you say "A caused B", there is a non-zero likelihood that A did NOT actually "cause" B, or even that B "caused" A but you got it backwards. (More on this below.) > It's the fashion now to point out > that math of the laws of physics works equally well backwards and forwards in > time. Hmmmm. This is not "fashion", this is the way the equations in our current theories work [#]. But practical applications of those theories do NOT, because in almost all cases the initial and final conditions of an interaction have quite different likelihoods of occurring. When the likelihood of an interaction proceeding in one direction is ~ 100%, and the likelihood of it proceeding backwards is ~ 10^-99, humans discount the latter and call the former "caused". Even when the underlying equations describing both processes go equally well in either direction. [#] Well, sort of. The actual symmetry is CPT, and you are only thinking of T -- that's an aspect of your domain error. > [misconceptions and fantasies about things he know nothing about] >And QM action at a distance [...] You are confused, and are probably mistaking an APPROXIMATION with a real theory. There is no "action at a distance" in any fundamental physical theory of modern physics -- all field operators commute at spacelike-separated points. (While you probably don't know what that last phrase means, it is a fundamental tenet of modern physics, and it does prevent any sort of "action at a distance". This is a key place where SR enters into all modern physical theories.) > time is never observed to run backwards Yes. As predicted by modern physics. You confuse the bare equations of theories with the application of those theories to the world. Tom Roberts

The Causality in Physics is not about the above. But, merely a timing issue, as if A causate B then A comes before B. (and yes, what you wrote is kind of magic. At the end, a Thought caused your flame. And again, very funny indeed, you just gave the proof that Thoughts are not stored locally). Excellent post indeed.
