Physicists are very particular about their units. It is only a bunch of dingleberry wankers who sometimes refer to c = 1 because they think it might get them out of trouble. >> Frankly, I think that because c is such an important universal constant, >> it would have been better defined as having the exact >> value of 10^8 LU/sec., making 1 LU = about 3 current metres. ...or even >> exactly 3e8 m/s.....but it is too late to change it now. >> >> >> Since you are so keen on change, you might be interested in promoting >> this idea of mine: http://www.scisite.info/sixday.html >> >> > > --

The majority of theoretical papers and textbooks in particle physics and gravitation use units in which c=1 (and usually also G=1 and h-bar=1 and k_B=1). This is for CONVENIENCE, not "getting out of trouble". The use of natural units is, well, NATURAL, and there is nothing wrong or inconsistent with it. There is NOTHING magical about meters, kilograms, or seconds, they are merely historical artifacts still in use today. Tom Roberts

However, yes, there are something inconsistent with them. You know, according to your Shit the speed of light is constant only in inertial frames (that, of course, are samely NATURAL, but don't exist in reality). That means that using them for real gives you inconsistency.

You might be an expert in your imaginary 'spacetime geometry' and spreading Einsteinian propaganda but you certainly appear to know nothing about basic physics. If c= 1, then all energy units have to be multiplied by c^2. All force units are multiplied by c. G, which has dimensions L^3.T^2/M cannot be 1 if c is 1. It becomes the current G multiplied by c^3. ...but I know that's far too hard for you.... > Tom Roberts --

This is going to drive you absolutely nuts, but in the version of natural units called Planck units, both c and G are equal to 1. It's amusing to me that physicists have no problem writing whole books expressing physics in these units, and conversing with each other with this convention, but you get stuck after a couple of lines. -- Odd Bodkin --- maker of fine toys, tools, tables

Yes. The key word here is "convention", because that is all ANY units are. That's why there can be MKS, CGS, English, ..., and also these natural units which are specifically designed to make physics calculations easier. Tom Roberts

I suppose the speedo of your car is superglued on one, is it? Assigning c the value of 1 says nothing. You have to define the units to give it a meaning. c being 1 can mean one lightsecond per second or one lighthour per hour, etc.. and whatever the units are affects every other physical standard. "I wasn't speeding officer, my car was only traveling at one car second per second"! ....You're a joke Roberts...a physics ignoramus like your mate bodkin.. > Tom Rober1ts

If you don't want to refer to length, listed by physicists as an extrinsic property, as a property at all, well then I suppose you are free to do that.
