In one case, the pole is rotated from a space direction into another space direction, becoming smaller in the first dimension (and larger in the second). In the other case, the pole is rotated from a space dimension (and thus measured as shorter in that dimension) and becoming "larger" in the time dimension (seen as time dilation and other effects by the stationary observer).

Since you denied the existence of material contraction then you resort to RoS to bail you out. RoS allows the barn door close and open at different times for the pole frame....this allow the pole to pass through the barn without hitting the barn doors.
