He will tell us that LIGO instead looks for a much more abstruse, much more recondite time of wrinkle in the spacetime continuum that earthly science is not even capable of producing. Back in 2015, I attended a LIGO party over on the MCSFT campus (Ross, where you there?) and put the question to the presiding chump "Why spend billions for LIGO instead of a much more reasonable Michell-Cavendish device?". The chump didn't have game and couldn't even comprehend the question. Instead he directed our attention back to contemplating his LIGO chirp transparency on the overhead projector.

How much must gravity diminish given > the inverse square rule, yet they claim to detect undispersed ripples? So you have got even the most elementary things about it wrong. Yes, the force goes as 1/r^2, in Newtonian terms. So does the -energy- in the gravitational waves. But LIGO and friends have -amplitude- detectors. So their detectable signal diminishes as 1/r, -not- 1/r^2. That's why they can 'see' to billions of lightyears out. You really should try to learn the first things about it, before you spout all kinds of nonsense, Jan

Score one for MW The 1797 MCX (Mitchell Cavendish Experiment) to measure the force of gravity in the lab, certainly demonstrates that there will be something like a wave, in terms of dF/dT detectable at a distance from an oscillating mass. The 2024 SSSX will determine if 1) the LIGO has any sensitivity whatsoever, and 2) assuming that LIGO does have sufficient sensitivity, whether or not the speed of gravity is c or instantaneous or something else. The speed of gravity is the holy grail of all physics for which I will win a third Nobel prize. For a while, at least, this accomplishment will eclipse my BBP Nobel. I propose that a 10 ton mass with an amplitude of 10 feet and a frequency of 10Hz be slung beneath a heavy lift Super Stallion at an altitude of 10 feet directly above LIGO. If no GW signal is detected then I further propose that the Super Stallion increase it's altitude to 1,000 feet at which point the 10 ton oscillator be released to drop on top of LIGO.

Well, yes, but there are those innocent kiddies who might stray in here. At least some of the straight stuff should be available. Incredible amounts of nonsense have been spouted, and not just here, on the mistaken assumption that it must go as 1/r^2, Jan Jan

So you are spitting and slandering, together with your fellow idiots.

According to Wikipedia, the largest known black hole is TON 618, with 40,000,000,000 solar masses giving the escape velocity of 1,291,075,630 km/sec for a minimum speed of gravity or 4303 times the speed of light.
