I have been "preaching" in these environs for quite some time that nobody knows what gravity actually is, not even in terms of a proper model. All we know is the effects of gravity that directly concern us. As such unless and until we have a much better grasp on what gravity actually is, or some substantially useful model of it, we can only hazard some pretty good guesses about things like black holes. Attempting to explain why gravity escapes a black hole while light and matter do not can only push us towards attempting to better understand gravity with a solution only in sight once we achieve such understanding. This is, IMO, a cart and horse thing. The creating some "pie in the sky" crankish theory is wasteful at best. I think solving this particular riddle will go quite far in resolving other issues such as whether or not some hitherto unknown form of aether exists. If it does, perhaps someone with more knowledge than I might look at this problems in terms of a phenomena loosely related to buoyancy. I do not presume to propose a solution, only humbly suggest one possible direction for extensive study. Even then I believe solving this puzzle will require a "eureka" moment.

It was explained to me by the docent on duty (an English-History major, his first month on the job) LIGO is a straight up MMX device that measures a change in the length of one of the arms as a gravity wave goes by.

Another excellent point, Laurence! If the sun and the moon can turn the entire Pacific Ocean into a gravity long wave detector--10 foot tides here in Puget Sound--why don't the two LIGO detectors (Richland and Livingston) exhibit differences of at least 1/100th of a proton four times a day? It's all fake.
