Emission theory refers speed to the velocity of an emitter. Aether theory refers it to the hypothetical medium aether. I am suggesting to define it simply as a ratio distance divided by time of flight from emitter to a location under of consideration in particular a receiver. Thereby distance means the linear difference between location of arrival at the moment of arrival and the location of emission at the moment of emission. Notice: I just refer to a possibly changing distance, not to a hypothetical frame of coordinate in space. I also don't directly refer to any speed of emitter, medium, or observer. What's wrong with this definition?

To al...@interia.pl: Of course, the emission model of light is wrong. You didn't notice: My definition of the speed of light doesn't directly refer to v of emitter or observer. You are sharing Einstein's thinking when writung c-v and c+v. My definition is different and doesn't need the non-causality of Poincaré synchronisation.

I'll give you an example. Some people say that most other variables allow values from minus to plus infinity, but not temperature. Temperature as an absolute zero. Why? Does this seem arbitrary? The split domains of spacetime is a direct consequence of its hyperbolic structure, reflected in the fact that the signature of the metric has mixed signs. Now, you might argue from the basis of simplicity saying, "Wouldn't it be simpler if the metric did NOT have mixed signs?" Yes, but then again, nature would be simpler if it had only two spatial dimensions rather than three, but that doesn't make it right. Anybody might have some native expectations for how nature is. In the end, though, the only way to tell whether those expectations are in fact in line with reality is to test the consequences of those expectations against experimental observations. If we restrict to a line, the interval ds is: ds^2=c^2dt^2-dx^2 So it turns out that ds can be real or imaginary

I just don't see SR a necessity.

Given that the measure of success of a theory is how well it agrees with experiment, and given that SR agrees superbly well with experiment, then what's the resistance to accepting SR as a successful theory?
