I do not pretend to be a physicist. But you may nevertheless take my 
'musings' seriously, since being a physicist is not a requirement to 
speculate about certain questions.

Actually I have spent a LOT of time on that subject, but have given it 
up, since the 'real' physicists do not like externals to speculate about 
what they regard as theirs.

        No, gravity does not make things drop.
Study General Relativity.

        Gravity is like acceleration, freefall is inertial motion,
what does that suggest?     The reason that gravity is like
acceleration is because gravity is acceleration, of the
surface, upward.

          Changes in gravity is all that can result, 
but there really is no reason to think there would be
changes in gravity just because two objects collide.

          I read the a translation of the class notes Einstein 
wrote on the subject, but haven't studied the second
half of the paper he wrote in 1916.

          It could be that the idea of field theory was
so strong in the early 20th century that he thought
there should be reverberations in the field if
massive objects did anything that made the
center of mass change position rapidly.

        But objects that are not fastened down
can rotate without any vibration at all, it is
motors that are fastened down that vibrate
violently if off balance.

       So, it will just be a matter of time until
the large detectors see a signal, or not.
