The population of atheist is not considered 'normal'. 1 percent are
atheist. That's not normal.

Not normal by the practising religionist obviously especially when you
use bogus figures like your 1%. Times are a changing my afriend and
you are being left behind by the wind of change that is sweeping away
relgious belief.

At the last Census for England those whose claimed to have religion
(any religion) was down to less than 60%. At the rate at which
religion is declining that figure is probably now down to 50% or less
making those of who who stated that we have no religion the majority
and therefore normal people

Other research (from Pew for example) indicate that of those who have
religion less than a third practise that religion. Which means that
practising a religion is now a minority abberant behavoir and that
those who no longer practise a religion or, like me have no religion
at all, are in the greater majority and thus are normal people.

As the number of practising theists drop the term 'atheist' becomes
increasingly redundant since we just become normal people. The last
census did not even bother to ask whether a person was atheist,
agnostic, humanist or whatever since they were only interested in
those abberants that still had religion. If they had asked they would
probably not had a meaningful answer since many people are probably
atheist and not realise it or are confused 'agnostics' who seem not to
know whether they are theist or not. What really matters here is
whether people believe there is a god or not. Since religion usually
involves a belief there is a god it follows that most of those who
state they have no religion do not believe there is a god implying
that about 50% of us English are technically not theists (atheist)
and while the rest who still believe there is a god most of them
are indifferent to that god since they do not worship it.

I'm talking about America...England don't count.

Could be 1.6 percent that are atheist in America.

Don't forget out of those 1.6 percent who say they are atheist, also a
percent of them still believe in God.

We seem to be better at counting than you are but
if that is what you like to think go for it. Complacency by
the relgious is good :-)

LOL

OK don't call us normal, it was only an invitation You were the one
who expressed difficulty writing 'atheist'. I was just trying to help
you. You still have the option of calling us 'not theist' rather than
using the abbreviated form.

More like 16% who openly say they are atheist in America,
and more every day.

Encompassing at least agnosticism, atheism, deism,[a] secular humanism,
and general secularism,[4] Americans without a religious affiliation
represent about 20% or more of the population.[1][2][5] and since the
early 1990s, independent polls have shown their rapid growth.[6][7]

Ah, the shifting of the burden of proof, or the "Proving a Negative"
logical fallacy.

All theists have to do is provide *real* evidence and this would all be
over.

The burden of proof is always on the person making an assertion or
proposition.

If the A in atheist means NOT, then yous need to prove your assertion
since you made up the Not in A..Atheist.

Only if the person wishes to persuade others of his assertion.

Although you would not be welcome to, you could come here and tell
us you were certain there was a god. If you did i would just shrug my
shoulders, keep my thoughts about you to myself and move on.

If on the other hand you came here demanding that we share your
belief, or attack us in some way for not sharing it and did not
support your assertion with any evidence I would also just shrug
my shoulders, keep my thoughts about you to myself and move on
to the next post.

Check the prefix a- to be found in any good disctionary

If you do not like the word 'atheist' then by all means just call us
people who are not theist. A theist is a person who believes in the
existence of gods. We have no such beliefs

Better still just call us 'normal' people. After all we are not born
theist, it is character flaw that is usually adopted in adolescence
and in my country the practising theists are in a small minority
anyway making it an abberant (ie not normal) behavoir

The person making a negative claim cannot logically prove nonexistence.
To know that a X does not exist would require a perfect knowledge of all things.

Yes, it's possible. For example, I can prove, that
there is no even prime number greater than 2.
But it's off topic for now.

You claim that burden of proof is on the claimer.
I've seen many people claiming the same - but I've
never seen any of them proving this claim. Will You
be an exception?
Let me guess - no.

For example, to know that God does not exist would require a perfect

Why did you remove the "not", when not means A??

For an atheist to claim God does not exist, would require of that atheist to have a
perfect knowledge of ...all things. That atheist would have to be an omniscient being.

Has anyone ever proved that Leprecauns don't exist????

Then, equally, for a theist to claim God does exist, would require of
that theist to have a perfect knowledge of ... all things. That theist
would have to be an omniscient being, a god him-or-her-self.

So does "Starmaker" claim that he or she is a god him-or-her-self?
