This is only half true.

The two events occur at the same time, but one distance unit separated.

This unit of distance could be - say - one light-year.

The problem is, that light does not move spacelike, but light-like.

We also define the term 'units of length' by using light in vacuum.

IOW: the term 'space' (or 'universe') does in fact refer to what is 
called 'past light-cone' and this is in an angle to the direction called 
'space-like'.

Now we have a problem with the conceptual understanding of the realm 
beyond the light-cone, since it is kind of invisible (~>'imaginary').

This problem is visible, if we try to relate it to an event one light 
away, that we can actually see.

Such an event is not spacelike separated, but light-like, hence the 
spacelike separated event in one light-year distance is somewhere else 
(other than in our realm of visibility).
