I'm German and write in a second language. So I know very the 
difficulties for Germans t5o write in English (or for English to write 
in German).

The English language is full of very specific rules and exceptions and 
there are way more English words than German.

German on the other hand is difficult for speakers of English, because 
they have e.g. three genders and certain letters, that are hard to 
pronounce correctly (like 'ü').

So I would guess, that I could hear the origin of a speaker. But I could 
also see the differences in the written language, since certain mistakes 
are typical for Germans and for English.

For instance countries are female in English (Germany is 'she') and the 
people living there are male singular (the German).
The German language uses different concepts and countries have mainly 
the neutral gender and people are addressed in plural.

So speakers of either language make certain errors, because they are 
used to the concepts, their own language is based on. And they keep them 
long after they speak the new foreign language perfectly.

 From such errors I can estimate the origin of the speaker, even if 
there is no accent.

But Einstein spoke with a very strong German accent (like e.g. Wernher 
von Braun), hence he did not learn the new language English too well.

Since the quoted text about socialism is flawless, I assume that 
Einstein could not have written it (himself).

But possibly the text was edited or corrected on the foundation of a 
text of Einstein himself. Possibly he wrote in German and that was 
translated by a professional translator.
