We seem to be looking at separate pages of 2 similar editions. Page 170 
does indeed define a "disc of radius rho_0"

*My* page 171 makes no mention of 'rho_0 = hbar/(m_e.v_z)

But the footnote on 170 contains the same information restated as: rho_0 
= hbar/P_z where P of course is the electron momentum in the z axis.

The Z axis is the line of "flight" of the electron with the 
zero-thickness plane of the electron perpendicular to the axis of "flight."

Now that we are looking at essentially the same information, can you 
please expand on why you feel Mills' derivation is incorrect & what it 
should be,  based on his assumptions re the electron's geometry?

I am certain I don't understand your point at all.
