I meant precisely to not agree with Cantor in a way that shows that he was wrong.

Which falls into the sense of "contradict" such as in
"a crank is contracting that the Earth is a globe".

> ... in a way that shows that he was wrong.

Which fails to fall into the general sense of "contradict" and
clearly means now "I refuted it".

So you are again fighting against your own words, Herr Mueckenheim,
you meant "refuted", you've confirmed it.

It is quite fascinating and, at the same time, disgusting to
encounter someone with such a low intellectual integrity (low? not
even that, zero!) as you, Herr Mueckenheim. Long after your death, you
may be a reference in epistemology courses for that.

ROFL - now Mückenheim has become an expert on English usage! It is true that his English, though rudimentary and often faulty, is better than his math.

That quote is not from the Merriam Webster-Webster Dictionary, which is indeed an authoritative source for American usage. For British usage the OED is the standard reference.

You are quoting from some online blurb "for students" on the Merriam-Webster website, not from the dictionary. To the extent that the quote seems to confirm your misconception, it is in error.

To say that "Mücke contradicts Cantor" means precisely the same as "Cantor contradicts Mücke". It says one of the two is wrong, not which one. In the present case, we know who is wrong, of course, but not because of grammar and semantics.
If your logical faculties had not atrophied at such an early age this fact should clear up your confusion.

Next lesson: You systematically misuse the term "complete", which has a well-defined meaning in set theory and point set topology. Please find out what it means and stop misusing it. This will have the side effect of making you appear to be less ignorant than you actually are.

Mr. Rennenkampff considers himself the most authoritative source for American usage. Merriam Webster is misguiding students!

But this time Mr. Rennenkampff shrinks back from presenting his own most authoritative definition. What a pity.

It isn't necessary to be an expert to correct your misunderstanding of common English usage, just as it isn't necessary to be a mathematician to see that you are a crank, a bigot and a fraud, incapable of learning even basic mathematics.

A professorship is one thing, but being called "Professor", while teaching remedial math at a technical college in the deep dark provinces of Bavaria, is quite something else. No, Mücke, the belief that everybody envies you is a part a part of your pathological mental condition.

I'll be glad to supply a definition since you are unable to look it up and since it is quite simple: A metric space is complete if Cauchy sequences converge.
Common examples are Banach spaces and Hilbert space. Yes, indeed, that's the same Hilbert Space that every physics student hears about, but not every Professor of General Studies knows what is meant and what it good for.

Your misunderstanding of "to contradict", and "Mücke contradicts Cantor" meaning the same as "Cantor contradicts Mücke", is simply too dumb for further comment.

The infinite is never finished growing.

https://quoteinvestigator.com/2013/09/16/do-be-do/

The infinite "is" and one "can do", that's how it is.

That's one way to look at it.

Let's say we're all familiar with
the integral calculus, and its
perfection and success in computing
the area under classical (or, integrable)
functions, and, a quite usual formalization
with delta-epsilonics and the limit as
"close enough".

The limit is no different than the sum,
and it's only perfect beyond any finite.

The limit isn't just courtesy the unbounded,
it's courtesy the unbounding.

Yes

No. None of the natural numbers are platonically missing. Since you
believe the axiom of infinity is false, you believe the natural numbers
exist but they cannot be put into a `completed set'. If you don't believe
they exist platonically then you are a formalist. Okay then you need to
formalize your ideas. But again, what you believe about it is based on your
pre-axiomatic intuition; you have not proven the axiom of infinity is false
but only assumed it. Let's think about the axiom of infinity in terms of
words: An inductive set exists. You deny that an inductive set exists but
that is just your starting assumption. So your argument is circular.

Either there are always infinitely many following, i.e., missing, or you have exhausted all including a last one. To deny this shows a lot of courage but a lack of logic.

I think you have hit on the main issue here. If one thinks in terms of
infinite tasks, for example super-tasks, one can encounter contradictions.
But that is not the right way to think about N, so don't think of N that
way. Rather, think of N as a bag and the axiom of infinity simply says what
is in the bag. So don't think of N in spatial or temporal or task related
terms because the contradictions that are encountered when doing so are not
from N but from N being applied in those terms.

That's quite certainly reasonable.

Nothing of what you say addresses my argument.

But perhaps you are confused by "the bag" with no order. Think of the linearly ordered natural numbers as sitting in a pipeline. If all are inside, then one of them is the last one. Contradiction.

Wrong! Where in FOL is the universal quantifier defined such as needing a last element? Your idea of the need of some end signal is ridiculous.

You can distinguish uncountable many paths.
When you have two paths p, q from P(N),
and if they are not equivalent, then

by set theory extensionality they differ
in at least one k, such that (k in p xor k in q).
If you take the smallest such k you

get a node from the tree.

Contradicted. Note that for every set of different paths there is a level where they cross different nodes. No level has more than aleph_0 nodes because set theory proves that the complete set of nodes is countable.

But you cannot have uncountably many paths because the largest diversity of marks of distinction is aleph_0 nodes.

There are only countably many.

Well there is so much winning with WM-ology,
where a lower bound |N| (the distance) he measures
magically turns into an upper bound for |P(N)|

(the objects) he takes the distance from.
If you have |N| distances, then you get 2*|N|
objects if they were are arranged like this:

        d=1
   x1 ------ y1

        d=2
   x2 ------ y2

        d=3
   x3 ------ y3

        ...

But for one node you have the hole binary
tree, the Cloud, with |Cloud|=|P(N)| again.
I guess you should apply at the trump
administration.

Probably bird brain Prof. Mucke Funk believes
something like (with a1,...,a2^n mutually different):

        d=n         d=n         d=n
   a1 -------- a2 ----- .... ------- a2^n

Which can be easily refuted. Just take for
example d=1, this would mean:

         d=1
   a1 --------- a2

Are there only two branches that differ in the
root? No, here are easily 3 branches:

    0.100010000...
    0.000100000...
    0.101000000...

So on each level you have |2^n|=<|P(N)|, which
only gives you a lower bound in the limit
|omega|=|N|=<|P(N)|.

Some couple of hundred years ago, Prof Mucke Funk
would apply to the prussian cavalry. He would then
have the job to measure the height of all the

reiters. He would then make a histogram, and figure
out that there are around 30 bins, for some
height between 165 and 195 cm.

When asked whether there are enough reiters in
the cavalry, he would then answer very alarmed,
no no, he measured only 30 reiters,

its very important to recruit more...
