I propose that, in the new year, we more proactively discourage posts from, or replies to, anyone who wishes to act like less than a gentle-person (and you know the folks I'm talking about). What do you think, can we take (back) control together?

Anti-trolls are, in most case cases, just as obsessed as trolls, if not more so. Some of the anti-trolls try to rationalize their behavior as "defending the truth" for the benefit of naive newbies who might otherwise be led astray. The anti-trolls who use that excuse choose to ignore the obvious fact any newbie with even average intelligence would quickly recognize the trolls as mathematical sociopaths. The reality is that the anti-trolls get just as pleasure as do the trolls from the mutual interaction. It's a kind of addiction. They can't stop; they don't even want to. Trying to persuade them to stop is futile. In my opinion, the solution is simple: Blatant anti-trolls should filtered out (even if some of them occasionally post actual math). These days, I see very few posts -- most active users have qualified, in my judgement, as trolls or anti-trolls. The few troll posts or anti-troll posts that make it through my filter are quickly recognized as such and deleted without the need on my part to even open them. Thus, for me, sci.math is a quiet place. That's sad, but from my perspective, seeing almost no posts is better than being deluged with constant nonsense. quasi

Since a lot of sci.math users such as WM or JG
have problems using axioms, here is my prefered
mnemonic. What do we do with axioms?
Well we use them as a premiss, for example here:
ZFC |- {1} = {1}
But what does the word premiss mean?
late 14c., in logic, "a previous proposition
from which another follows," from Old French
premisse (14c.), from Medieval Latin premissa
(propositio or sententia) "(the proposition)
set before," noun use of fem. past participle
of Latin praemittere "send forward, put before,
" from prae "before" (see pre- ) + mittere
"to send" (see mission ).
http://www.dictionary.com/browse/premiss
So in German this would be possibly "zugrunde
legen", "voraussetzen", "vorausschicken", etc...
Wellcome to the game of math.
Bye

I agree that some (never I /ahem) overdo it. Perhaps you overestimate a significant fraction of the population. I have a hunch A. E. didn't say that. So you have a reliable
source?
