I'll try to make this brief..

Math is an Invention, not a Discovery...arguement solved.

Take for example:

The "Mandelbrot set"

It is no different
than giving an Artist
cannabis
and music
and you get the same effect
in the mind of the Artist
that you get with the
"Mandelbrot set".

That is proof Math is an invention of man.

Mandelbrot wanted to see what happens when the orbits of z=z^2+c stay
small vs the ones that blow up into infinity. He got some of his
colleagues to write a program to graph it, and out popped the Mandelbrot
set. AFAICT, it was quite a beautiful discovery.

I would like to see a stoned Artist plot the set by hand. Wouldn't it
kill their buzz?

I didn't say "by hand", I wrote: "in the mind of the Artist"

"in the mind..."

That is where The "Mandelbrot set" exist Only, in the Mind.

Now, with
giving an Artist
 cannabis
and music...
 you get the same effect
'in the mind' of the Artist
 that you get with the
 "Mandelbrot set".

Wow. Smoking weed and listing to music can create zooms of the set in
your mind?

Na. You can actually plot it, its not that hard and pretty
straightforward. Have you ever tried to do it?

Well of course! If you do a google Image search for 1970's vintage posters during the turn-on generation,

you will see ' zooms of the set'

You can do it without using math...

cannabis
 and music
....
the math version is just....LSD with numbers.

Men invented fire.
Men discovered binary computer.
What do women invent?
What do women discover?

My point p of view is p = to invent = to discover.

Well, I guess one can. But, using math, one does not have to expose the
mind to chemicals.

LSD! Now, that shi% is really bad... A couple of friends of mine told me
they never really felt the same after exposing their brain to it, and
they actually regret doing it in the first place.

Hummm. I think I may have missed your point. Are you saying that once
one plots the MSet, one must have theoretically absorbed LSD, and its
brain might be totally fried, even though it never has taken it at all?

you are right but I believe maths is both invention and discovery it is discovery like the nature numbers we have two hands and one head so it is discovered from the nature and invention as you said

MYTHMATICS is an invention, but MATHEMATICS is a discovery.

A mathematician is like an artist, the objects arising from concepts in a mathematician's mind are only as appealing as they are well defined.

Math is not invented, it is discovered.

Knowledge is neither created nor invented, it is discovered as we become aware of it.

The Ancient Greeks were smarter than anyone who ever lived because they philosophized and everything comes from those efforts. The Ancient Greeks did not invent math. Any other race would have eventually discovered perfect concepts. It's just that the Greeks were 2500 years more evolved than all the other races. Proud to have Greek in my ancestry. Chuckle.

Who knows, if there is sentient life on other planets and they discovered pi, did they discover it as circumference over diameter or something else? :-)
