Physics Failure Archimedes Plutonium <plutonium.archimedes@gmail.com> fails: >For once, in science history, we can understand what electricity really is, > and understand why AC can go far distance, yet DC is not far. Wrong. AC is used for long distances because it is sent at high voltages and low current using transformers, and transformers just don't work on DC. These days, however, they use high voltage DC to transmit power for even longer distances than is practical using AC, using converter stations at each end. Right now, I am about 20 miles from the converter station at the end of one of these lines, which imports hydroelectric power from northern Canada, where there is nobody around to use it. Thomas Edison is having the last laugh.
