I just googled for some hours if there is any toolbox / library for MATLAB with which you can realize something similar like PATMAX does for cognex cameras. 
I want to add flexible ROI for moving objects in a line. This should be realized by finding features / edges and calculating the position and rotational angle from it.
Is this possible for matlab?

As your question concerns MATLAB (as well as
image processing) you might want to also ask
it in a MATLAB group.  For example:
     comp.soft-sys.matlab
