That will generate gigawatts of electricity.

Considering spot price of solar at $30 and below per sqm,
the cost of the solar panels is minimal compared to the
cost per mile of the border wall.

For decades power companies have been opposing solar
fencing along motor ways and new roads which adds minimal
cost compared to the construction of the motorway itself
but generates gigawatts of electricity at the expense
of incumbent power generation companies.

Now it looks like that is all about to end with Trump
building his Mexico wall with solar panels to
generate gigawatts of electricity to pay for the
wall in no time.

one of the most interesting developments, saw yesterday, was going to 
post here -

manufacturer has managed to produce "tile" panels .. these are roofing 
tiles which appear to be opaque, but are solar

it means that current building methods, styles, can be maintained - a 
building can be "solar", but look the same from the street

pastel textured, rustic looking roofing tiles, matching the style of 
existing roofing tiles, which are solar

overcomes the objection of people, of having a large glinting mirror like 
'panel' on their roof

they've been around several years...delay is probably about the
    economics

it would be a great deal of power into the grid

And all of this would require backup generation for when the sun don't
shine. Just think of a cold night.

Chinese solar panels cleaned by Mexican workforce
will reduce costs even more! ;-)
