Anybody who thinks that Charles Murray's contribution in "The Bell Curve" was in any way scientific hasn't read

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Inequality_by_Design

and doesn't know much about science.

Kevin D. Williamson may understand identity politics, but he's a bit weak on on science, as you'd expect in somebody with a B.A. in English Literature from the University of Texas.

Jim's scientific background is better - but not much. Like John Larkin he went through university learning only the stuff he thought that he could use to make money.

Cursitor Doom thinks I'm a communist - he knows I'm a socialist, and doesn't know enough to realise that communists were no more socialist than the German National Socialists. But Cursitor Doom does have an excuse - he doesn't seem to have been to any kind of tertiary institution, and reads the Mail, which is not so much low-brow as no-brow.

Which was the mag with the girls in it? "Page 6" girls?

It was weird growing up in America and then visiting a place like the UK
or Europe where they show nude people on daytime TV and there are porn
magazines just lying around for sale in the open. Meanwhile they didn't
even let people get tattoos legally in Massachusetts until about 5 years
ago.

What a ripoff.

You need to remember that the US was founded by right wing religious
extremists (Pilgrims!) who were essentially kicked out of the UK and
Europe for being too hard to live with.

Things south of the border haven't improved much since then...(ducking).

Canada was founded by Loyalists (to the UK crown), Irish invaders
(really - read up on the Finnegan raids), voyageurs, Metis, and other
folks who mostly just wanted to get along with each other. No wild west
here, the Mounties (NorthWest Mounted Police as they were known then)
were in place before that nonsense could happen. Not that the Mounties
don't have their problems...but who doesn't?

Rupert Murdoch's "Sun" and the under-dressed girls were on page 3.

America is a strange place. You probably need to be more cynical - porn was banned in the US, which made it more expensive, which meant that the people who sold it had better control of the distribution and could extract higher margins.

Lenny Bruce's claim that the FBI and the Mafia were in conspiracy to keep the price of heroin in the US high does have more than a grain of truth.

The religious right does seem to be mainly motivated by the visceral satisfaction they get from stopping other people have a good time, but "harm reduction" is a much better principle to use in regulating recreational drugs and reading.

They're statistically the biggest consumers of porn, though. Though they
say they don't do that sort of thing. Like everything else.

That doesn't follow. The null hypothesis would be that the religious are just as likely to consume porn as anybody else, including atheist.

Of course, somebody who isn't going to believe in a god for which there's no objective evidence might be expected to be less likely to get sexual thrills from a sex object that was just pixels on a screen, but that's mere hypothesis.

The alternative is to go to uni to do womens studies, because you don't care
about money, but since you now can't get a job with such a qualification,
you will now sponge welfare of those that did go to uni to make money.

but you don't have to feel guilty about it because that after a degree in
womens studies you know that all bad things are caused by the hetero-normative white Judeo-Christian capitalist patriarchy ;)

I know how you feel. I went to a liberal arts college and every day I'd
see these free-spirited conventionally attractive 19 to 23 year old
women around campus, talking about their sexuality, wanting you to come
back to their apartment alone to have drinks and discuss their feelings
on patriarchal oppression, the exchange students moping about how they
couldn't wait for the warm weather to come because it was too cold to
wear a bikini in Sweden regularly.

The 60/40 female-male-ratio was completely overwhelming and I really
felt like I was on enemy territory. It was HORRIBLE. I have no idea how
my masculinity survived intact.

you didn't get the memo? masculinity is now "toxic" and an example of how
the patriarchy also oppresses men

revolution, and feminism, to breed a geneartion of frightened
neurotics?

Note that Trump, of the three wives and girl-part-grabbing, won the
majority of the white female vote. Some women still want their guys to
behave a little like cavemen.

womens studies also have an explanation for that, those women are suffering
from "internalized misogyny", ofcourse caused by the patriarchy

there is probably a reason why "Fifty Shades of Grey" is a best seller

Sure. Responsibility is taught. When it's not, you end up with
