#746245 — This tiny gold crystal could bring quantum technology out of the deep freeze

This tiny gold crystal could bring quantum technology out of the deep freeze
Date:
 August 8, 2026
Source:
 Louisiana State University
Summary:
Scientists have created the first quantum material that can sort and transport
different quantum states of light at room temperature, potentially removing
the need for bulky, ultra-cold refrigeration systems.
Built from a gold film carved with hundreds of microscopic structures,
the ultrathin “metacrystal” acts like a filter that directs different kinds
of quantum light along separate paths while preserving the information they
 carry.

Please do tell us what electronics design you are doing that involves
this equipment or anything even closely related. For that matter,
just tell us *anything* you're actually designing or have designed.

You seem to be simply a press release copy/paster.

Jan has contributed quite a lot of electronics to the group over
the years. What did you contribute?

My news spool doesn't go back years, it only holds 30 days or so. In
that time I just seem him copy/pasting press releases.

I already posted a list of stuff I'm working on in a previous
discussion around his copy/paste press releases. I'm happy to discuss
any of that.

It is sci.electronics.design not alt.flame.

You want to get flamed? Go someplace where the skill (such as it is) is
taken seriously.

I dunno who or what you are but if you keep attacking me then I was thinking about advertising online for a lawyer or lawyer group
that sues you and your boss for an amount that is similar to what happened to those google guys pestering some blogger.
And this is not a closed group.
All you have done do far is make trouble.
Get the fuck out of here.
And if that does not work ;-)

Anyways kill file for you.

That's a bit OTT Jan, I'm sure Richard is a perfectly pleasant fellow
in person.

Send him a couple of space cakes to take the edge off of things...

These netcops wouldn't dare be so nasty in real life. Somebody would
take them out back and decorate them with blood, and they know it.

In the beginning, only civilized people knew of, and used, usenet.
They were all polite, reasonable and knowledgeable. There were only
a few groups and it was easy to follow and read *all* of it. We used
the newsreader 'rn' over 4800 baud connections to a pdp-11 running
Unix and a dumb VT100 terminal. The web didn't exist. Berners-Lee
didn't even work at CERN yet.

Insecure? You bet! But security wasn't yet needed. Everyone cooperated
to make things run better! There were hackers, sure, but they weren't
malicious, just curious.

Those days are far behind us now. The pioneers have retired or died
and rabble has taken over.

All true, but please don't insult the PDP-11. It was a beautiful
machine.

Pity we went the barbaric 4004-8008-x86-windows route.

Imagine a PDP-11, or a 68k-like machine, running at 2GHz...
Alas, money makes the choice, and it often chooses wrong.

I think here was a non-microcoded sorta-RISC version of the 68K.

I'm thinking that the future should be a 256 or 1024 or 4096 core
RiscV on a chip. And a suitable new OS.

I think you have forgotten Bandygrams. There was never a time when
everyone on Usenet was polite and reasonable. Knowledgeable, maybe.
