Childish in thinking very many people would want to spend their lives in what would amount to a buried submarine. -- Jim Pennino

Nope, in movie three the crew was ordered to never talk about the device and it was implied that part of the device was made with something either illegal or unethical and anything made with it would be unstable. -- Jim Pennino

> Oven. Whatever is needed. Oven. Whatever it needs to.
no answer ? try to think it through.
man needs 500 liters of O2 per day
there are 10 men up there, 2 are needed to run the O2 plant, and 2
are needed to run the Water plant, and 2 are needed to run the N2 plant.
so your O2 flow rate is 5,000 liters per day,
your N2 flow rate is 15,000 liters per day (assume a 25% O2)
and about 7.5 liters of water per day per person
so how many tons rocks do you cook per day ?
How much energy is needed to run the rock cooking plant?
What type of rocks work for O2 that are on the surface ?
where do you get 24 liters of water per day ? (assume a 25% recapture rate)
Biofilm questions: where does the lost water go? will the biofilm cause
dammage to the electronics? How much energy is used to keep the
Humidity down to below 70% ?
how do you reprocess the salt bath used for cooking the rocks ?
What rocks do you cook to get N2 ???

UKland spent about that much supporting a couple of banks to ensure
that the bonuses to their directors didn't suffer.
The EU has spent far more doing roughly the same thing.

There are few colonies of humans that were ever self-supporting.
Trade with many other places is always considered an essential.
What would the Moon trade for its Earth-derived essentials? Movies,
books, software, research results, food dropped in large containers,
drugs, minerals and other stuff. A lunar colony would not stay *lunar*
for long. It would need seed colonies on Mars, Mercury and the
Asteroids, as well as at a minimum mining and manufacturing plants on
various comets and Outer Planet satellites. Given a couple of decades,
a successful lunar colony would, in spite of it being expensive to set
up, totally revolutionise the Solar System economies.
The question is often asked "I'm not a Scientist, what would **I** do
on the Moon?".
The answer is obvious:
"Do you want fries with that?"
Humans need to eat. And cleaners are always in demand.

*Earth* is a barely habitable planet for humans. Without technologies
no human colony has ever survived nor ever will. This is a very harsh
and lethal planet.
The Moon and Mars are far easier to work with. Neither of those have
nor will *ever* have (unless humans are totally stupid) mossies and
malaria.
Humans could quite handily live in floating cities in the airs of
Jupiter and Saturn (hot hydrogen lift, powered from the ambient
electrical storms if no other source presents itself) and in the
weight-free bubbles made from falling rocks in the cometary zone. All
it would take is one surge of effort.
It is a great pity that none of this will ever happen.

Some USAlien colonies, even with the highest tech available did not

Again, assuming a few working tools Mars and Luna are often far more
benign environments than is Earth.
Colonists are unlikely to take anything *living* that would wish to
eat them and tornados are few, as are seismic events.
There are enormous advantages to moving to dead worlds.

Hey a moon colony is no problem. The settlers can always sustain their
settlement by trading beads with the alien basses there. It's a PLAN
that worked the last time! HVAC will explain the details of the plan.
