There are of course farmers markets, but the only special day that comes to mind during the autumn is all saints day. This day in sweden, is _not_ about eating candy and dressing like ghosts. From my childhood I remember it as a very boring day, when I had to go with my father to the cemetery to light candles upon the grave of his parents. I don't understand why we have to import the Helloween spectacle to sweden, with all the candy and stress it brings with it. The wife likes it, I personally, prefer the boring tradition of lighting a candle and thinking about death in a peaceful place.

PS: I don't think they are traditional in the USA but Mom often made stuffing from store bought raisen bread and we all liked it. She didn't bake stuffing in the bird (fine by us) as it's faster without. Turns out safer too (food safety). The reason for them on the side is to let folks choose what they like. Macademia nuts would be great but even in Hawaii, they aren't cheap. > > I assume like most of the world, you have some 'harvest festival'? > > Generically we call it 'Thanksgiving' and normally a fall harvest. > > October Fest is a sample of it. Only once did I have a thanksgiving dinner. It was my school in Chicago who had as a tradition that every professor would invite a bunch of the international students. In the house I was assigned, the stuffing came on the side. It was explained to us that a very important tradition was to drink bland beer, and to watch american football at the same time. ;) > Macademia nuts would be great but even in Hawaii, they aren't cheap. > >>> I assume like most of the world, you have some 'harvest festival'? >>> Generically we call it 'Thanksgiving' and normally a fall harvest. >>> October Fest is a sample of it. Dallas is on the list, Detroit, not so much. Right, I was referring to the scheduled nfl games for that day, it became a TV tradition back when Dallas was good and Detroit was awful. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/NFL_on_Thanksgiving_Day The NFL's Thanksgiving Day games have traditionally included one game hosted by the Detroit Lions since 1934, and one game hosted by the Dallas Cowboys since 1966 (with two exceptions in 1975 and 1977). Since 2006, a third prime time game has also been played on Thanksgiving Day. Unlike the two afternoon games, this game has no fixed teams. In 2001, the NFL began branding the games as the Thanksgiving Classic.[1] In 2022, the league changed the branding to the John Madden Thanksgiving Celebration in honor of head coach and broadcaster John Madden, who had died in December 2021 This year's early offerings include this absolute stinker: New York @ Dallas 2:30 PM FOX

I had no idea! Many decades ago, in that room at thanksgiving, I hardly paid any notice to the actual teams playing. I was more focused on my beer and some discussion with the professor and my fellow class mates. White sox... always white sox! ;) One of my mentors and customers in the US who I haven't seen in 15 years was a huge Red sox fan and used to take me to games for free, so I guess the Red sox have a place as well in my heart.

That's the greatest home field-advantaged team in baseball! The Green Monster is right up there with the Celtics parquet flooring for iconic status in sports.

Oh yes, quite the feeling at the home red sox game when I went. My customer used to work as a talent scout for the Red sox, so he knew everything about the game. In fact, he was close to becoming a professional player himself, but had to go into business due to a knee injury.

It's nice to branch out a bit, and that's an obscure Dodgers pun given their World Series win. https://youtu.be/JNNIV9ss0us 42 (Branch Rickey decides on an integrated roster) https://baseballhall.org/hall-of-famers/rickey-branch "A conservative and religious man who notably refused to participate in Sunday ball games as a player and a manager, Rickey was anything but traditional in the way he approached baseball as an executive. He invented the modern farm system and the batting helmet, was an advocate for expansion into new markets and most notably broke the color barrier when he brought Jackie Robinson to the Brooklyn Dodgers in 1947." π

Thank you for scratching that itch! > =) It was funny but I lived in a trailer park age 21-23. We had the same type of party long ago. A televised game would come on and we'd bring out our TVs with rabbit ears and turn them all on to the only channel with the game. We'd set up BBQ's if we had one and folks who didn't have one would grill on your's. Chicken franks were best most of us could afford but it all worked out. I'd make a ton of coleslaw and beans and some chicken dogs. Folks would bring cheap beer and we'd just have fun. Just a day having a group party. We called it a trailer gate party. Trailers have a v-shaped front gate amd we'd set up by there ot bigger grills would be perched in the center triangle of the hitch. I don't think that was common. It was just something us college students would do.

And guaranteed to have no flavour at all. ;)
