Maybe they were used as scoops, because that's what they look like, but I didn't know anyone who milled their own grains. My mother's mother had kitchen tools and other family possessions from a-way-back, but I don't recall seeing anything like that - other than a picture or maybe it was a museum. Thanks. -- sf

I was also referring specifically to the image examples. Those are stainless steel measured pitchers, most places, most days, in the US. That's all I'm saying. Actually we do, we just aren't used to calling them that. Think pint, half gallon, 1 gallon and so on measures. I can wrap my head easily in a larger measure item being called a 'jug'. A cup of flour is the same volume as a cup of milk. I am pretty sure that if you pour flour into a measuring cup that the 1 cup mark is the same volume as filling it to the same mark with water.
