That was the question on my mind as I read this story about an emu that was murdered in a rural area outside Hamilton, Ontario. https://www.thespec.com/news/hamilton-region/everybodys-in-shock-family-reeling-after-intruders-brutally-kill-pet-emu-in-rural-haldimand/article_baf366d5-da12-5866-aae6-046fa3794342.html?utm_source=newsshowcase&utm_medium=gnews&utm_campaign=CDAqKggAIhCUUsUgQ-5hmOyqGMpcOCriKhQICiIQlFLFIEPuYZjsqhjKXDgq4jDpic4B&utm_content=rundown&gaa_at=la&gaa_n=AZsHK_nLjVWrdQ-EYvCCw-ZfIawKg1UpbJaEPfXNW8dNFUi5ZxOlye1EE_9ANS8JaXSYgqEdKxSEBg%3D%3D&gaa_ts=65f70050&gaa_sig=V4EftU8dmcB0WqdCvZ4olgtekw6D4H36j0r_pi9N9quaoeTapiT3FqJ-j5MXlYxF3nU-kofhPOMwUZAF7Y-H8A%3D%3D Unless the killer was a descendant of someone on the losing side of The Emu War in Australia [1], this seems like it could only have been an act of revenge on the "crazy, emu lady" as the owner says she was called. ~~ [1] No, I didn't make that up. There actually was a "war" waged by humans against emus in Australia, nearly a century ago. The humans lost. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ejiYxSWrkdY [5 minutes] -- Rhino

That's interesting since Rhino's the closest to Toronto though I know the geography around Hamilton (about a 30 minutes drive from Toronto) since I'm a McMaster alumnus though that was 40 years ago - and have been back numerous times since my late wife was from around there.
