Where getting precisely one client to agree to the look-and-feel of the ad is a difficult undertaking. It's dated, being set in the 1930s, but Sayers's _Murder Must Advertise_ draws on Sayers's own experience as an ad copyrwriter to portray the endless struggle to get any of a number of clients to agree to this week's ad. If they pass the text, they hate the artwork; if they pass the artwork, they hate the headline; if they pass the headline, the artwork has to be changed. -- Dorothy J. Mind, I'm talking about the PC, not the assorted > handhelds; I don't have any handhelds. I've been bitching about my cataracts for a while now. The retinal detachment in my right eye made it almost impossible for me to read anything without taking my glasses off and rubbing my nose on it (I'm very nearsighted in my remaining eye and yes, lens replacement is covered by my insurance and will be done when I get some other issues handled). Anyway, my stepson and daughter-in-law got tired of hearing me bitch and gave me a spare 32" flatscreen TV to echo my 19" laptop screen onto, and with a USB mouse and keyboard I'm a happier camper. Now, I'm very glad I had the foresight(!) to get a laptop with an HDMI port when I was looking for a discount computer. Mark L. Fergerson

My right eye had a stroke, or something like that, a couple of decades ago and can't really see at all. I can make out one large blob of color from another. When I get my left eye done I won't be able to read or to do anything, really, until the bandage comes off. (A day or two, IIRC.) I'm trusting my right eye will be able to find the way to the bathroom and back. :) > (I'm >very nearsighted in my remaining eye and yes, lens replacement is >covered by my insurance and will be done when I get some other issues >handled). Anyway, my stepson and daughter-in-law got tired of hearing me >bitch and gave me a spare 32" flatscreen TV to echo my 19" laptop screen >onto, and with a USB mouse and keyboard I'm a happier camper. I have a 24" computer screen which at present does me just fine unless the print is too small, in which case it's nose to screen again. (And a lot of it, like quest logs in LotRO, is NOT resizeable.) But for now, that works. I don't know what conditions will apply after August. I don't have a laptop at all ... or rather, I have a hand-me-down from a friend, but it's got one of those compact keyboards. I've been a touch typist for SIXTY YEARS and I can't cope with a keyboard where the keys aren't where I expect them to be; I have to copy text onto the PC (which has a splendid keyboard from Unicomp with trackball built in) and correct hundres of typoes. I don't need a laptop anyway; I hardly ever leave the house. -- Dorothy J. Heydt Vallejo, California djheydt at gmail dot com

But you're talking about a Kindle, right, which is a handheld. I don't have a handheld and both my inclination and my finances tell me I never will. No, wait, you're talking about a gizmo for reading Kindle text on a PC. Okay, I'll try that if I ever buy an e-book from Amazon, which is also about as unlikely as one can get. -- Dorothy J. Having written them yourself doesn't disqualify them! Dave, and if you found it usable, -then- you start picking up an e-book here or there. gutenberg.org has free ones... Yes, and I can read them on Calibre. But Calibre gives me this little screen about the size of a real paperback page, and it's not that easy to read. If you tell me there are ways of increasing the font size, I'll believe you, but I don't know how ... and if there were a way of increasing the PAGE size, that would be convenient too, but again I don't know how. And I tried looking at the how-to section for Calibre, but it might have been written in Martian. I can remember the first e-readers coming out about the time I was married, and that was 1971. Calibre's instructions appear to be written for those who have been using e-readers for about that long, and all they need to be told is how *this* e-reader works. Icould compare it to medieval cookbooks that read something like "take fresh beef, and hack it in gobbets, and cast there-to poudre forte and seethe till it is enow, and serve it forth." Concise notes written for people who've been cooking in a medieval kitchen for forty years. -- Dorothy J. Heydt Vallejo, California djheydt at gmail dot com

That window is resizable in the usual fashion, including clicking on the "full screen" icon in the upper right. Secondly, to change font size you can right-click in the text and it will bring up a context menu, including font size changes. You can also hold down the Ctrl key and hit + or - to change the font size. I believe that you are not using Windows, so things might be different. Brian

Thanks, Brian; saved to disk in case I ever feel bold enough to attempt it. (Remember that I am seventy-five and female; when I was learning how to use things they were things like electric irons and typewriters, and other non-computer things that if you just experimentally did whatever you felt like with them, you could TOTALLY DESTROY them. I got into computers, gingerly, in my forties and by then my habits were set.) -- Dorothy J. Heydt Vallejo, California djheydt at gmail dot com

I hope you have success with this, and I will try to help in any way I can. Brian

I'm close to it, and kids who did grow up with them ask me for help.
Age isn't the issue.
